A mentor is someone experienced who can guide you through learning what's most important, help with career choices, and give you tips on writing better code. For example, when I started learning coding, I found a mentor online who showed me tricks for organizing my projects and explained new programming concepts. It's great because mentors are often willing to help and share what they've learned to make your journey smoother.

You need a mentor: from my experience one of the best things I did was that I found a mentor he did positive effects on my career, that was through a mentorship program by Babble and Carrery. Honestly, I did not do all the things my mentor told me but I tried so hard to do most of them, and I tried to do more and more but really he inspired me. My advice is to search if their companies can accept you in some mentorship programs and build long-term relationship with your mentor lto be like brothers, there is no problem to have more than a mentor.

Having a mentor is a good way to learn from their journey and mistakes. There's always someone you'll be able to look at based on your current role. Finding someone 1-2 steps before you would be the most valuable. And, of course, learn from them if you plan to be like them. :)

The only thing that I was missing was were the steps that I needed to actually get there! By tackling it this way, it made the process far easier to continue on. Especially with learning something new, you're inevitably bound to keep tripping up these steps - but having a clear and focused goal makes getting up and trying again a lot easier.

When there are stakes, you would be more careful with the implementation in terms of pros and cons. But don't be afraid, embrace them and have skin in the game.

Managing your expectations of yourself and your expectations of others is very important in my experience. A significant part of software development is the mental challenge. Making mistakes is part of life and also part of software engineering. Yet in software engineering mistakes can be quite glaring. Things can freeze, crash, break, be lost or be wrong. But it is part of the deal. Be ready to learn but don't lose yourself in self-criticism. I think we all have a love/hate relationship with software we use. None of us want something we use to stop working. So it can be a curse to be the person who broke something and a blessing if you can save it. It is important to get comfortable not quite knowing what will happen at all times.

Understand that you can't learn it all, and even the skills you can or are currently learning have learning curves - some more steeper than others. Give yourself time - you're learning a new skill.

Learning new things can be like drinking from a firehose: a lot at once, no way to stop it, and you're probably pretty close to drowning. In new roles I've joined, it was easy to feel overwhelmed or uneasy that I wouldn't retain all of the information being given to me. But when it comes to learning, you must give yourself grace and realize that everything comes with time. Allow yourself to celebrate finishing a lesson, accomplishing a goal of a project, or being proud of where you've come so far. Be patient and realize you're not going to be a master all at once - so don't give up if you feel frustrated.

I have a different opinion on this. There's a tool for every scenario, but there's time for context-switching. You can think of the best way to start a project. But if time is taking too long, it will take more time before you can complete it. Meanwhile, you have profitable projects that are using old technologies (like my favourite Ruby on Rails). But the key thing is they just work! Always factor in the time and opportunity cost when considering learning new technologies.

When learning and trying new things, especially when you're focused on one specific language or project, it's good to have other projects, goals, or ideas to pivot on if you feel like you're approaching burnout. Burnout in a role you're unfamiliar and familiar with can be the same thing, but having other things to work on in the mean time to continue exercising your brain but in different areas allows you to return to your original goal far more focused.

By connecting with others in the industry through meetups, online communities, or platforms like LinkedIn, you gain access to valuable resources and support. Building these relationships can provide you with guidance, introduce you to new opportunities, and offer fresh perspectives, helping you navigate obstacles more effectively and grow in your role.

Just I can say in software development, testing and quality assurance (QA) play vital roles. After passing initial tests, consider releasing a beta version to a small group of users for real-world feedback. This step helps spot any lingering issues and allows for improvements before the final release. By prioritizing testing and QA, you ensure your software is dependable, performs smoothly, and delivers a great experience to users.
