In my experience, as a Career Counsellor: 1. Weekly Check-in's must be scheduled as the counselling journey begins. It helps to be abreast with the progress during the journey. 2. Deep dive into the progress, achievements, areas of concerns, Milestones celebration etc. 3. It's imperative to consistently communicate with the student and the parents so that everyone is on the same wavelength. 4. Remember in a physical face to face meeting it's easier to get to understand gestures however it works differently when there's a virtual set up.
Goal setting is a powerful tool in maintaining engagement in virtual career counseling. Assist your clients in defining clear, achievable goals and developing a structured plan to reach them. Break down larger objectives into smaller, manageable tasks to prevent overwhelm and provide a sense of accomplishment as each task is completed. Three ways to enhance (or continue to practice ;-), include: 1. Look into the camera rather than at the screen. It might feel a bit odd but persevere - it gets easier with practice. 2. Use non-verbal gestures a little more to let the client know that you are present and actively listening. 3. Check in a little more frequently.
