What's your storytelling strategy?

I always tell the punchline first. Then slowly reveal how I got there. Is it an effective strategy? In many circumstances - yes. But mainly, it's because I'm bad at keeping secrets.

Step 1: How do humans feel? Step 2: How do I let them know I feel it too? (Then a bunch of arbitrary words to reach LinkedIn's character minimum, thereby undermining the real point of writing, which is to use only the precise words you need.)

My primary objective with all of my writing is to inspire, inform, and entertain. Whether I am engaging in visual storytelling or crafting written narratives, my intention is always the same. I strive to create content that resonates with people on a deep level, sparking their imagination, providing them with new insights, or simply offering them a moment of enjoyment. If someone walks away from my work feeling moved, enlightened, or entertained, then I know I’ve accomplished my goal. ✨

I use storytelling to build empathy and share different perspectives. When we share personal stories, we create a bond with the audience and build a sense of belonging. We stay connected.

A story is one of the most powerful marketing tools because we were all used to having our parents tell us stories during our childhood. But you have to know exactly * who you tell this story to * What “status” this person is in * and what effect you would like to achieve on this person. These points should determine the definition of your goal.

When I'm writing a story to sell, there is one factor I must understand with total clarity: My audience's pain. Every business is a business because one person pays another to relieve their pain. Stories sell when we can so clearly speak about the pain (not necessarily the problem) that our desired audience is saying "that's me" all the way through. When our audience believes we understand their pain, we've earned the right to talk about our solution.

What is the audience's background. ... Find out what interests the audience and what they expect from you. Discover any preconceived mindset of the audience What is the goal of my story and how will it align with the needs of my audience ?

People like stories because they resonate. They are relevant. They can see themselves in the picture, or the story has some emotional appeal. Even the most universal stories aren't for everyone. Which means your story is tuned to your audience. A simple framework we use to do this is called a T leaf. It's a way of understanding what you want your audience to feel, know and do, and inferring, or investigating, what your audience feels, what they want to know and what they might be prepared to do.

Knowing your audience is crucial for effective storytelling. It involves understanding their demographics, interests, values, and preferences to tailor your narrative to resonate with them. By knowing your audience, you can craft a story that captures their attention, speaks to their needs, and elicits an emotional response. This understanding enables you to choose the most appropriate tone, language, and content to engage your audience and create a meaningful connection, ultimately leading to a more impactful and memorable storytelling experience.

Conflict and resolution are fine for screenplays. Three acts are universal. I use Hook-Meat-Payoff for business storytelling. 🎣[Hook] How do you hook people and get them leaning in? At the same time, give them a sense of what's coming. 🍖[Meat] Carve up your content into bite-sized chunks and arrange it in digestible, logical, and appetizing order. 💰[Payoff] Ask your ask. What are you asking people to do?

Don't just know A story. Know YOUR story. And write it out loud. Write a story that is not there to please; it is there to betray - betray other people's standards, expectations, and imposed structures that simply.do.not.work.anymore. Write from a place of loud honesty and personal standards you set (and live) daily, and watch the story change, evolve, and unfold remarkably. Online, offline, and in all places in between.

A good story should have a 1. A hook (not a clickbait). Example: I'll Starve You to Teach You a Lesson... 2. Character: Must be relatable too. Your T.A should read this and say 'this is me'. If it's not relatable, you aren't talking to anybody. 4. Conflict: Without this, your story will be boring. Talk about the dilemma your character is in because of his or her painpoint. 5. Villain: This is the bad boy that's coming between your T.A and the solution. 6. Resolution: Now, the end has come because you have shown yourself as the best guide.

I use this A-B-T framework to tell a story. Effective but hard to apply. Still practicing :D It's a concise storytelling structure commonly used by leading companies such as Pixar, Nike, and many others. It involves Presenting a situation (And), Introducing a conflict (But), and resolution/solution (Therefore) Here's an example: And: We introduced a new customizable dashboard feature But: But, user engagement dropped due to confusion in the customization process Therefore: Therefore, we simplified the interface and improved onboarding based on user feedback. People remember what you say as - Stories simplify complex messages - Stories engage emotions - Stories are easier to remember >>> Leads to greater influence

Consider crafting your story with S.T.O.R.Y. Start: Background Top: Climax Outcome: Consequence Reality: What happened, scene/setting You: What's your realization or lesson from this story?

I discovered a unique way to tell my own story on linkedin . Since linkedin has a set word count (about 3000 words) for each content. I usually do my best to maximize the plot,character and most importantly the conversations so as to enable me still have enough space to ensure I have passed the message across. I adapt my style to suit linkedin and of course ensure I utilize adequate spacing , with simple words ,clear and concise to grab the attention of my audience . Text format works wonders on linkedin.

As a 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻, I have realized that LinkedIn offers various ways to tell my stories. Here are some popular options in my opinion: 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀: Share bite-sized stories with captivating headlines and visuals. Briefly describe a situation, the challenge faced, and the solution implemented. 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀: Deep dive into complex topics using your experiences as a springboard. Offer valuable insights and takeaways for your audience. 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝘀: Showcase your personality and bring your stories to life with engaging video content.

It's essential also to align your story medium with your marketing strategy. Where will you attract your customers, or how will they find you? These questions and your answers will help define the best medium to tell your story and provide a holistic brand story.

If you find it more meaningful to communicate through long-form mediums like podcasts or newsletter, use that to tell stories. And in case, you don't know what medium you'd enjoy creating stories in, find out what mediums you enjoy consuming stories in. It's a good indication of what you could potentially create.

We use polls to collect data on our meetings. The good, the bad and the ugly. These responses enables me to adjust my story for the next audience. The most valuable feedback I receive is when an individual seeks me out to share their experience and appreciation for sharing mine. When the audience connects the dots and walks away with a better understanding of why we are doing something or where we are going. Then I have communicated in a way that allows individuals to carry on the mission.

From my experience as a marketing consultant and boutique agency CEO, I can affirm that feedback is a crucial part of storytelling. It's not just about understanding your audience's reactions but also about refining your story based on their responses. This iterative process is what makes a story resonate with its audience. Furthermore, as a neurodiverse individual, I've learned that feedback can be a powerful tool for overcoming communication challenges and enhancing the clarity of your message.

Cutdown parts of content on socials to help gather feedbacks. These can be in the form of characters, plots or themes and use comments to understand how the story performs in these separate components. Rinse and repeat to improve stories along the way.

Constructive criticism is the chisel that carves a masterpiece from raw stone. Embrace feedback as a guiding light on your creative journey, for it is through the eyes and ears of others that you can refine and elevate your narrative. Seek out diverse perspectives and be open to change, for it's in the willingness to adapt and grow that your story can evolve into a compelling force that resonates deeply with your audience.

Engaging Characters: Relatable and dynamic protagonists. Compelling Plot: A well-paced and intriguing storyline. Conflict and Resolution: Introduce challenges and satisfying resolutions. Emotional Impact: Evoke emotions to create a memorable experience.

Storytelling is a form of art and a universal language. It is an art inherent in every culture and society. Stories stimulate the imagination, and create a sense of community and empathy among the audience and the narrator. Stories connect to emotion, motivate action.

Sometimes it's important for us to forget the skills of storytelling. But rather go live life, take note of relationships around us and stories can be inspired by living life. Spending time away from studying the craft to experiencing life might be one strategy!

I've noticed that audiences respond far more to authentic, lived stories than mythological stories or to stories about famous people. I've had one participant tell me that stories of heroes or famous people do not inspire them because those people are expected to win because they have some special abilities but stories of ordinary people who overcome struggles make listeners believe that even they can do it.

“How do you measure a story’s success?” A lead asked me recently. I would start by defining my story’s goals: 1. How do I want my audience to FEEL? Happy? Inspired? Empowered? You tap into their core emotions. 2. What do I want my readers to DO after reading the story? Sign up? Book a call? Visit a website? You entice them to action. You can measure success by sales made. The numbers give you the truth. But when they don’t, look at your DMs and comments. They tell you more than numbers ever will. That’s how you measure success by the lives touched.

Spontaneity is key. Even if we know which story we are going to share about, it's good to tell it spontaenously. Then, the story doesn't need to be spectacular. It just needs to be relevant to what we are saying. In every day life, there are so many "events" that are interesting stories to tell, if we pay attention to them.
