As a big advocate for D&I what I have experienced is that a structured interview process with standardized questions for all candidates. You can have differrent interviewers assess different elements. However having a structured approach helps to ensure fair and consistent evaluations, minimizing the impact of subjective biases. Having a diverse recruitment team helps because then you will also target a diverse group of talent.

Diverse teams bring together individuals with different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. This diversity of thought fosters creativity and innovation as team members approach challenges from various angles.

Please keep in mind that while hiring a diverse mix of people should be a priority for your organization, equally as important is ensuring that you are establishing both an equitable and inclusive workplace for existing and future employees. If you really want to make an impact, you need a comprehensive, holistic strategy that drives toward fully integrating DEI into every part of your organization, making it an active part of your overall business strategy. I don't know how many times I have to say this! Please adhere to the Supreme Court of India guidelines in NALSA v Union of India (2014) and include a third gender option in all your hiring forms! I can't tell you the number of times I've seen hospital admission forms, recruitment forms, and registration forms that ask me if I am a man or a woman. This is not only patently absurd but also violative of the Supreme Court guidelines in India. For individuals not in India where transgender rights are not codified in law, make it a small but simple practice to ensure that you have the following gender options: M, F, Transgender, and Other.

And of course - know your own biases (the good and the bad), and regularly review with your team to ensure they understand their own.
