Wer sich erst zu den Interviews etwas überlegt, ist zu spät dran. Wer frühzeitig weiß, dass er/sie Unternehmensberater*in werden möchte, kann/sollte das strategisch angehen. Bsp: Während meines Zivildienstes habe ich in einer Amateur-Theatergruppe gespielt; während meiner Bankausbildung war ich Vorsitzender in der Jugend- und Auszubildendenvertretung; während der Studienzeit habe ich unterschiedliche Positionen bei der internationalen Studentenorganisation AIESEC übernommen: Alles Tätigkeiten, die sich im Lebenslauf gut machen, aber eben auch weil man dort viele wesentliche Dinge für den Job lernt: Projektarbeit, Verantwortung, Teamarbeit, Führungsposition. Davon zu berichten, kommt dann sehr fundiert und glaubwürdig rüber.

Wenn ich es auf EINE Eigenschaft reduzieren müsste, wie man erfolgreich wird, dann ist es PASSION. True Passion! Nicht gespielt, oberflächlich, aufgesetzt, künstlich! Ich glaube, dass einige Menschen die Fähigkeit besitzen, sich in jedes Thema, in jede Teamzusammensetzung, in jede Aufgabe, auch vermeintlich blöde Aufgaben oder Nachtschichten so reinfühlen und die positiven Aspekte hervorheben und zelebrieren können, dass sie sich ganz automatisch durch gute Arbeit, guten Spirit, ansteckend positive Laune und ein positives, nicht ständig jammerndes, "alle anderen sind schuld und böse" sondern Möglichkeiten-sehendes Wesen hervorheben. Aber Achtung: der Grat ist schmal. Kommt es aufgesetzt und gespielt rüber, hat es den gegenteiligen Effekt.

There are some pretty good answers from the others here. My thoughts: What makes a good Management Consultant? Be Likeable. If the other folks don’t like you the meeting will end quickly. Be smart. If you are not knowledgeable about the subject matter, then why would they want you? Be Upbeat. If you cannot be excited about the opportunity then why would they expect you to do well? Be a good communicator. You might have great ideas, and knowledge, but if you cannot express yourself, then you will never do well. And lastly, Be Transparent. Transfer your knowledge to the others and add value to everyone. A management consultant has to both give and receive respect. Start with the interview and continue through the engagement.
