What do you do if your professional network is weak and hindering your career prospects?

My experience Within your organization, be more approachable, help and seek for help often, be humble and show your peers and team that you are available in your circle of competency to help whenever you can. Avoid gossips which kills most of the networking opportunity. Outside your organization, attending events, being extrovert and reaching out to people, seek a mentor to help expand your network will help. Remember that networking is often more about soft skills then your Technical or management skills. So develop that soft skill for networking.

Selecting the appropriate event based on the objective, planning for the event, targeting the audience and analyzing the results are important steps to achieve brand recognition or lead generation.

The onus is not on your professional network as a primary hindrance to your career prospects. And a weak one is debatable depending on what actions led up to its design. Holding a community of folks accountable for one’s career prospects is ludicrous to me. It completely strips the ownership that is incumbent upon you to invest strategic and intentional connections & actions. Networks need care & feeding. If you want a stronger network, seek first how you can serve those others & add value to their goals. If you come into this from a what’s in it for you, you’ll end up w/ a larger, superficial, & transactional network that won’t activate for you. Demonstrate value you can bring & genuinely offer to see what you can do for others first.

Endeavor to find the Lord Jesus Christ while He is accessible. In ancient times, having a Lord or Master meant they were responsible for providing your essentials—shelter, sustenance, attire, healthcare, and safety. By worrying about these earthly concerns, I’m essentially trying to take on God’s role, which shows a lack of trust in Him. This approach likely does not please Him or honor His lordship over me. However, this is not to say that indifference, idleness, or mismanaging finances pleases Christ. We are instructed to be as prudent as serpents and to be faithful stewards of what the Lord has entrusted to us, recognizing that it is a stewardship from God.
