To set apart share a genuine curiosity towards the businesses you serve, understand their missions, and grasp how each role contributes to their goals. "What does the company aim to achieve by filling this position?", "How does it fit into the grand scheme of things?" When engaging the candidates, go beyond the confines of their resumes. It is never about key word search and all about understanding the role & the fitment and looking for candidates who are the "right" fit, not just role wise but also culture wise. Try to understand the JD and the company before you embark on the candidate search. Understand what the candidate wants from the job. When there is an alignment between the two, closing the position is easy. Always, but always do your homework before you begin the search. Ask as many questions as you can, of the client and the candidate. They help you understand the role, Industry and make you a good recruiter.

I agree. The best way to stand out is show that you are invested. Show that you take the time to really learn the industry, the company and the needs. You want to build trust with the hiring managers immediately. Come prepared at your initial intake with industry trends, what the market currently looks like for that field and that you have read the job description and have questions ready. Then ask meaningful questions to gain a deep understanding of the specific needs of the role, what the hiring manager is missing on his team, how they preferred to be communicated with about candidates, and what they expect from you and your expectations from them as a partner in filling the role.

Ask questions, do your own research, and google every single word you don't know the meaning of. Don't just show eagerness to learn, do the actual learning, quickly. Don't be afraid to ask your candidate's questions too. They're likely experts in their field and appreciate it when a recruiter wants to truly understand their qualifications. One thing I found to be Helpful is never ghost a person after you made contact with them. Follow-up with the person whether they were chosen or not, or if the project is postponed/delayed. The greatest communication skill a recruiter (or person) will learn is how to be authentically curious, connect to your candidates as people not “resources” to fill a req and ask them thoughtful, relevant questions Learn how to help them show you their authentic self and ideal career path Learn how to weave the role you are hiring for to see if that intersects with where they are on the journey. This requires skillful mastery of the role you’re representing Become expert at telling people the good/bad/ugly parts of a job in a professional, engaging way. ALWAYS BE HONEST If they’re not right for the job, say so. You’ll get a lot more distance from your interviews if you mentally and emotionally put yourself in that persons “shoes”.

Get to know everyone. Go to events. Career fairs. Internally shadow the teams you support. Go through onboarding process for those teams. Be a sponge. Listen, listen, listen.

If you want to stand out as a recruiter, please consider having a strong HR background. When I first got started, I knew I wanted to develop my HR background. So I got my PHR certification. That helped me become a better recruiter for my clients and for job seekers. Too many recruiters have little to no HR/Talent Mgmt. background and it shows.

Showing you are coming prepared to the discussion brings a high level of trust & professionalism to the meeting room, and this is something you still want to build on.

Communication and relationships. Not just on the client side- although that is SO important- but also give the same to your candidates. Truly understand what both sides are looking for and be thoughtful in the matches you are making. Follow up when you say you will. Under promise and over deliver. Truly care and be authentic.

HR is notorious for overdoing technology in an attempt to check a box. Recruiting is NOT HR but more sales and marketing. It's likely marketing has better tech than HR.

Be coachable and amendable. When I first started recruiting, I tried to soak up as much information as possible from leaders in my office. The staffing agency world really set the tone and attitude for my future career successes.

Invest in Continuous Learning: As an entry-level recruiter, I'd never stop learning and growing in my role. Staying updated on the latest recruiting trends, attending workshops or webinars, and obtaining relevant certifications demonstrate my commitment to excellence. Being in recruitment means you have to constantly be learning but never more so than in your first 2-3 years. Become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Ask questions, listen and learn from others. And if your company is not investing in your continuous learning take it into your own hands - there are so many resources out there nowadays

Communication is taken as how well you can speak English mostly. In my opinion you can use good enough english or average english clubbed with your local language to be more effective and infact most important is that you are able to express your self, as we need to understand that we are not selling him a product but a job which is equally important for his growth and career! So work on what questions to ask/probe and how you could clearly get that message across, than to polish your English.

This would be one of my FAVOURITE topics. For more than 15 years, I've trained Rookie Recruiters with zero recruitment experience and the single-handed skill that cannot be taught, is hunger. In my experience, an entry level recruiter’s most prominent quality should be his proactiveness and the intent to showing initiatives to learn from their peers and seniors.

In my experience any entry-level employee is assessed on how frequently they are able to initiate. This shows that they are willing to learn and are not afraid of failures. It’s the playbold attitude that is required to proactively demonstrate their skills. The result will not always go in favour but the attitude to learn from it and make something out of it matters.

The role of a recruiter is primarily a relational role! Having a human, positive, and transparent approach with both candidates and clients (internal or external) is essential. A positioning resolutely oriented towards others and being able to detect the possible integration of a particular personality into a team with a good level of factual and sensitive analysis, that's what allows for the best recruitments.

Being eager to learn and contribute is important. CAUTION: Be very careful about suggesting improvements to a process. HR hates change. I run into issues all the time with stubborn and lazy HR leaders being resistant to change, especially if it is not their idea. Try managing up and be humble. Don't look for kudos; instead, trust that your commitment will guide your success.

You should be prepared to invest time, and energy into learning how to become a great recruiter, and don't be afraid to showcase this knowledge by offering up insight and suggestions on how to improve!

Make sure you understand the soft skills the hiring manager is looking for. You may not understand the intricacies of the role, but your job is to know people, theirs is to screen for specific skills.

Be yourself in your own style. Find the way your talk to candidate at your comfortable tones and style. Candidate do not remember your name or your company but your style that makes you stands out. Ofc, you have to delivery the process correctly.

Instead of simply informing candidates which positions we believe they are suited for, it's important to understand their needs and preferences first. We should provide them with the opportunity to express what they are looking for in a role. By doing so, we not only gain insight into whether they are the right fit for the position but also have the chance to establish a stronger relationship and foster trust with the candidate.

Resilience is a key. More often than not, recruiters get rejections from hiring managers, candidates etc, hence you need to continue to motivate yourself and not take it personally as it does not reflect on you as a person when face with such rejections. Being genuine is also another key to having the candidates continue to want to have conversations with you!

Once you learn the technicalities and the build relationships.. stay true to your personality. Often people try to follow other recruiters. It's OK to be inspired but do it the way your gut says. You don't have to be traditional and you don't have to follow anyone. Do it in your own style!

Master the Art of Storytelling: Instead of bombarding candidates with dry job descriptions, I'd craft compelling narratives that showcase the impact they can make at our startup. Whether it's highlighting the journey of a previous hire who thrived in a similar role or sharing the exciting projects our team is working on, storytelling creates an emotional connection that resonates with candidates on a deeper level. Plus, it sets us apart from other companies that are just listing requirements and responsibilities.

I always tell new recruiters to be true to themselves and embrace authenticity in all interactions. Believe it or not, most recruiters just go off script (at first), don't do that, use a script is a guiding principle, but be yourself. When you approach a client or candidate, let them know who you are, and if you do, you will be successful.

Oh my days. Please do not send the same AI regurgetated nonsense template to all the same clients (who probably know each other and poke fun at these recruiters on a daily basis). Show a genuine interest in LinkedIn posts, always add value and make sure you have a genuine business reason for commenting. Brown nosing will not show your credibility - it will do the opposite.

Our most successful recruiters, who have all joined as trainee’s, are generally the ones that have the strongest work ethic. Yes of course, each individual has their unique strengths and weaknesses, but generally, year on year, the top 50% billers all have one thing in common regardless of their individual personalities, they all work hard!

Persist through challenges and setbacks - there will always be candidates that decline offers/no show to interviews. Demonstrate determination to your hiring managers.

"Talk less. Smile more". In ANY entry level role it's good advice, but especially in recruiting. Listen to recruiters more senior than you, and listen to your CANDIDATES. Always ask questions, and don't be afraid of silence. Give the candidate the opportunity to fill it with words that can qualify them out, or more importantly IN. During the interview process, look for potential mentors. Recruiting is a process, but it's also an art, a science, and a calling. If you're not called to help people, do NOT become a recruiter. Don't just take it as a job, and DEFINITELY don't make it your first job. Do something else first so you can relate to your future potential candidates. Good luck, we're rooting for you.
