Is it them or us? Oftentimes, we project our fears and judgements onto others consciously or subconsciously. So based on my limited experience, it is important to gauge where the trust issues might be stemming from before trying to amend something. Once the awareness has been established, it is important to hold time, space and an opportunity for the attendees to ask (as many) questions as soon as possible during the event for maximum productivity and efficiency.
