Being a Pastor with a heart of people and also being a drug and alcohol counselor, I've learned to put listening and observation together to better assist and help people to better themselves, provide for them answers the questions they did not ask. I love spending time with individuals to help them support themselves and to clothes and feed their families without being an enabler.

Mostly forgotten thing when you work so passionately is to care about yourself - self care. Take a Pause, relax yourself, it's important to take a break, look after your MBS ( Mind body and soul), rejuvenate yourself. Keep time for yourself, to reflect, meditate, exercise and spend quality family time. You could always make it holistic by covering all aspects of your well being - physical, pschological, emotional, social,professional, environmental spiritual and financial. Apply same for your team as well, encourage each member to focus on self care, this would make compassion, strong bonding and loyal relationships.

It is important to decompress and practice self-care to revitalize your mission and your vision. It increases your ability to engage and be creative. And finally, it allows you to pour energy into what matters most to you. A great deal of passion is needed when you’re attempting to inspire folks to connect with you, grow with you, and build with you on an idea, cause, or issue. In order to ignite the spark to fully express your fire, you must make sure you have the energy needed, and that means being aware of your self-care practices. As an advocate and as a leader or role model within your community, you must look after yourself, your well-being, your mental health, your physical being, and your emotional health. Be your best advocate.

Experiential learning is when you seek learning from others who have walked the path. It could be your seniors, peers, guide, coach, gaining guidance and knowledge from them and ensuring you avoid making mistakes which they would have made. Even by being a good observer one can learn immensely and then imbibe key takeaways - expand your knowledge, you would overcome fear of unknown, will have better idea about path to be taken and will also boost up confidence level.

On my professional journey, I have learned one crucial thing about the world we live in today. Mentors can no longer be bound and limited to physical locations. Rather, they must be found and created in each of us, allowing us to transcend the limitations of walls, rooms, or a single environment. We do this by actively representing acceptance, kindness, and compassion, requiring the same in return, and displaying the courage to speak up. Mentorship is about creating safe spaces or representing a safe space where none exists. This is a role that can require integrity, follow-through, and courage. Lessons were often passed down.

Learning Through Impact: Sometimes learning from others means engaging with those that your serving by asking questions about their life challenges, needs, and experiences. It’s hard to empathize without the full picture or the origin story. This is also why success stories or impact stories are so important for nonprofit work, without those stories, it’s hard to communicate and understand the supportive needs, the potential for impact, and relevancy of the organization. You’ve heard of empathy through living in someone else’s shoes - what better way to develop empathy than painting the full picture which inevetably will have some points in common - making it understandable and relevant to the listener.
