However, always check the motherboard specifications to ensure compatibility. DDR5 has started to emerge for newer systems, offering improved performance, but its availability may be limited.

DDR, DDR3, DDR2, DDR4. Check what type of Ram they support. Check your motherboard and CPU. Also, you can't use DDR4 if computer only supports DDR3, DDR2, and so on.

Capacity is single most important parameter, it matters little how fast your memory is when you lack capacity to actually store things in it. As for how much is enough? depends, but usually you can't go wrong with 2x8GB, 2x16 if you can afford it. Any more is as edge case as fast RAM, even in gaming you don't need more then 2x16GB. As for channels, that's a no brainer, PCs support dual channel memory and you want to have dual channel memory, not a single module, a pair, period. Dual channel is simply superior to single channel in almost every workload, even when you have the same capacity and single module is faster. Anything more then dual channel requires workstation/HEDT or server grade hardware, not something normal people use or need.

5 ECC and Non-ECC

The last thing to consider is the type of error correction that your RAM has. ECC (Error Correcting Code) RAM can detect and correct errors that may occur during data transmission, while non-ECC RAM cannot. ECC RAM is more reliable and stable, but also more expensive and slower than non-ECC RAM. ECC RAM is usually used for servers, workstations, and other critical applications that require high accuracy and reliability. Non-ECC RAM is more common and affordable, and suitable for most consumer and gaming systems. You need to choose the type of error correction that suits your needs and preferences.

PCs do not support ECC, even machines that do seldom actually need ECC memory, it is for specific purpose and serves no purpose otherwise.
