Na minha experiência implementar o brainstorming é uma ótima técnica de criatividade. Primeiro se deve compreender o problema que enfrentam, depois gerar ideias, selecionar das ideias existentes e por último planejar as atividades.

Although most people know and use SWOT analysis, I recommend using the Appreciative Inquiry 4-D, 5-D, or SOAR models instead. SWOT’s Weaknesses and Threats tend to dominate discussions. SOAR’s Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results helps focus conversations on the possible and what’s right, instead of what’s wrong. This leads to more generative and creative conversations through a solution-orientation.

Organize prototyping sessions where team members experiment with potential solutions in a low-risk environment. These sessions promote creative problem-solving and help refine ideas into actionable strategies.

Integrate external stimuli, such as articles, case studies, or guest speakers, into brainstorming sessions to spark creativity and inspire new ideas. Exposure to different perspectives and experiences can stimulate divergent thinking and lead to novel solutions to challenges.

Great design sessions move from divergence to convergence first on defining the problem/need and again on defining the possible solutions or paths forward. Expert facilitators are attuned to groups who don’t diverge far enough initially (people are keen to land on a solution quickly, which leaves the problem and possibilities poorly explored), and push them to diverge further than their comfort level. If divergent thinking has been given enough room, convergence will automatically start happening, and will feel more comfortable because it was precede by real and thorough exploration. In facilitating convergence, be sure to watch out for too-quick group-think, or people just landing on the first best problem definition or solution.

We know that flow leads to higher divergent thinking, and that flow most often involves some kind of rhythmic, harmonious movement. In my experience, an excellent way to get people to open up and think divergently is to get them up and moving! I've discovered a fun and accessible activity that I have noticed brings most people into a state of flow after a few minutes, which I call the "two ball pass." Partners start with one ball each and begin passing the ball to each other in harmony with some background music. When the ball falls the goal is to effortlessly get it back into "play." There's a variety of mechanisms you can adjust to fine tune the skills/challenge balance, like distance between parters, tricks throws, etc.

Flow state requires being challenged 10-20% past your (perceived) current knowledge or capability, but standing firmly on and in an area of competence or confidence. To help facilitate this, ensure there are clear and meaningful problems to solve, a mix of experience and expertise in the room, and resist the urge to save or bail out teams with a solution the first time they struggle or feel uncomfortable. Also avoid rushing or over-programming creativity/design sessions. Less is more, as flow needs focus.

Saying broadly that flow is THE optimal state of consciousness is over-hyping the concept in my opinion. Sure, Csikszentmihalyi talked about "optimal" experiences in his initial research, but flow is also unpredictable, unstable, and neurochemically demanding. It may be that flow is the optimal state for divergent thinking, but our body and mind's true optimization must involve a natural decline and rejuvenation post-flow. So to say that generally our optimal state is flow is misleading. Instead, I'd say our optimal state of consciousness involves flow, but also the natural and necessary downsides of it.

Feedback and collaboration help ensure good end products but can actually stifle creativity if misused. A designer constantly receiving feedback from a variety of people may face decision paralysis, as the feedback is likely inconsistent due to the diversity of people's experiences. This "too many cooks in the kitchen" problem can be avoided by planning and executing very intentional and controlled phases of feedback throughout the design process, interspersed with uninterrupted periods of development and creative thinking.

This can also be done during a sketching warmup by challenging the notion of what failure is. In design thinking we believe that anyone can draw low-fidelity visual representations of ideas. To celebrate success and failure you could facilitate a warmup exercise where everyone draws their own version of a scene, and the "good" and "bad" versions are praised equally for accomplishing one simple goal: relaying an idea in a visual manner.
