How do you build your leadership identity?

This can help identify areas where the organization or team is excelling, as well as areas where improvement is needed. 🖐️Gathering feedback involves soliciting feedback from team members, stakeholders, and other relevant parties to gain a better understanding of the organization's or team's strengths and weaknesses. 🖐️Analyzing data involves reviewing data related to the organization's or team's performance, such as financial data, customer satisfaction data, and employee engagement data.

In my journey of building a leadership identity, I've found that acknowledging my own areas for growth and proactively addressing them has been pivotal. For example, I recognized that enhancing my public speaking skills and running more effective sales discovery calls were areas where I could improve. To address this, I enrolled in my company's workshops and even role-played with fellow team members and mentors. This consistent practice and commitment to learning not only boosted my confidence but also significantly sharpened my leadership abilities

It's all about being your true self. Integrity and trust are two of the most important elements of being a leader and if you're not yourself it will show through.

Leadership begins with me - my inner being! I first need to Lead myself before leading others. A thorough self-assessment of myself, identifying my strengths, weaknesses, values, and personal leadership style goes a long way introspecting myself to leverage my strengths and work on areas that require improvement. I fully believe that self-awareness is the foundation of authentic leadership.

A leadership vision serves as the guiding force that shapes our actions, decisions and interactions within the professional realm. I engage in a process of self-reflection to identify my core values, passions, and long-term aspirations. Understanding what truly matters to me enables the creation of a vision that aligns with my authentic self. I ask myself questions like, "What impact do I want to make?" and "What kind of leader do I aspire to be?" I understand that a leadership vision is not static; it evolves over time. Regularly revisiting and revising my vision allows me to adapt to changing circumstances, learn from experiences, and stay aligned with my overarching goals.

Create a visual for yourself and fill it with words you would like be associated with as a leader. These words may range from your personality, social image, beliefs, goals, non negotiables or any other that pops up in your mind. Review it three times and create a narrative in 10 words that has the essence of it all. Re-read if your inner self approves of this vision, else keep aligning till it does.

Start by identifying your values and principles and what leadership means to you. Cultivate self-awareness to understand your strengths and areas for development. You can use tools like Lumina Spark or Lumina Leader to better understand who you are and your style of leadership. Actively seek feedback from mentors and peers to gain insights into your leadership style. You can learn from leaders that were great and those that were terrible. Mirror leaders that you strongly align with, and do the opposite of the leaders that you didn't really like.

To build your leadership identity, start by defining your leadership vision. Consider the type of leader you aspire to become, along with your core values, beliefs, and guiding principles. Reflect on your purpose and mission as a leader, and how you envision making a positive impact within your organization and broader community. By crafting a clear and compelling leadership vision, you can provide direction for your actions and decisions, while also inspiring others to align with your goals and aspirations.

First of all ask: How do you see yourself? Leadership Identity is built on your view of yourself and thereafter what you think a good leader is.

Leadership network is even more valuable when built & nurtured over a period of time long before you actually need help. A leader should know the importance of instilling trust within his team . A leader should know the difference between being consistent and being stubborn. He/She should be able to adapt to ever changing market trends and capable of responding and acting to data.

Leadership voice is made visible by building a personal brand as opposed to relying on the crutches of the brand of the company you work for. The expression of leadership voice through demonstration of subject matter expertise via written and spoken means is widely known. In the digital world of blogging, vlogging, podcasting, publishing articles or books using easily available & often free tools makes expression of leadership voice much easier than in the past. Thus there should be no excuse for aspiring leaders to start building their leadership voice to showcase authenticity & authority.

Todo líder tiene y debe ser conocido por una tendencia, ó hacia los procesos ó hacia las personas. Esto es muy clave porque la gente debe tener claro cuál es tu fortaleza general, qué es a lo primero que te enfocas. Un ejemplo rápido es Steve Jobs y Tim Cook. Jobs era big picture y motivaba en función la excitación que generaba lo que pintaba en la mente de su gente. Cook es más small picture, motiva en función de identificar los pequeños detalles que los llevan al éxito. Las claves son dos: 1) Tienes que tener claro cuál es tu tendencia (personas o procesos) 2) Asegúrate de que todo lo que comuniques lo hagas en función de esa tendencia. La combinación de las dos cosas, genera el elemento más poderoso del liderazgo, la autenticidad.

Just by being yourself, being humble and a learning attitude. Put yourself in your team's shoes and be there side always. When the answer could be one word why to exaggerate it?

You are only a leader if others perceive you as such. So in order to build a leadership identity, you need to make sure others are actually perceiving you as a leader and respecting you as one too. To understand why or why not they perceive you as a leader you need a feedforward system. GCG is a great place to start for that.

I believe leadership starts with respect and trust. People that need to be led need to respect the leaders knowledge and trust them enough to follow that lead. A true leader needs to respect the people they are mentoring and be open to many opinions. They need to listen and respond. They need to take every opportunity as a learning experience for themselves and the people they are leading. They need to be strong yet compassionate. They need to be confident yet humble. They need to be experts in their roles but know there is always something new to learn. But most of all, they need to be true to themselves and the people that look up to them.
