Selecting the right vessel for transporting oversized I would like to share an anecdote. Many years ago when shipping a Power Transformer from India to Port Klang, a breakbulk vessel was ideal. First of all , you should have a proper dispatch plan in your hand from the operation department to understand whether to be dispatched goods be accumulated in a regular schedule vessel or whether chartered vessel required. If material to be loaded on regular scheduled vessel from respective port , Freight forwarder will reduce half of your pressure of logistics activities. But If you need a chartered vessel for the logistics of ODC , you need to select the appropriate service vendor who provides chartered vessels according to ODC requirements. Then you need to arrange loading activities at loading port which are very hectic activities to catch vessel schedule as well pressure from vessel owner & port authorities to vacant berth.

Documentation for my oversized cargo was a meticulous task. We entrusted SGS to tally the 4 dismantled automotive stamping machines and accessories. In my opinion, 1st thing we will try to ensure will be the packaging and security of the material if I make sure that it is perfect enough to sail then for the next step I will coordinate with the logistics team or custom broker and explain the real scenario if there won't be any trouble while clearing of the cargo, after this we may file proper documentation for the cargo and arrange dispatch for the same.

Securing the voyage for oversized cargo was paramount. The main machines were too large for crates, so we meticulously covered them with tarpaulins. Accessories demanded careful crating to shield them from moisture, corrosion, and shocks. Next very crucial part is to ensure to work with a credible, reliable and experienced Forwarder and Local customs broker and transporting company for export clearance, customs clearance and OOG transportation. Have very keen interest to execute planned action with speed since OOG associated additional costs may be upto five or more times compared to the usual conventional containers e.g demurrage, storage,very limited free days, non compliance costs at destination country among others.
