I agree… a monolithic architecture is not ideal. Platform options like angular, react, node, redis, etc… and a component-based design, with shared subscription services is a typical starting point. It’s modular, can run on bare-metal x86, can be virtualized, containerized, or all three; can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud, or stretched across both in a hybrid fashion. The benefits here are flexibility, agility, and choice to scale in whichever way makes the most sense to the business.

Abstracting your layers makes you elastic. Some elements only scale up, in that case you should be able to switch out that element for a faster one by changing one that element and not another layer in the stack. Containers could do this automatically for you but beware that you need CNCF compatible containers. Else you can't easily use expand to another cloud service when you need a sudden boost capacity. Because you (private) provider will always run out of capacity just when you need it (seen lots of examples with shortage of GPU capacity).
