How can you build better relationships with your students as a teacher?

There is a simple thumb rule. Acceptance, of the students, Love them and your calling [ note It is not called a job] and build trust. Everything else fits into place.

So how was your class? I asked my students. He replied" it's fine but the teacher keeps forgetting my name. Hearing this hit me. It was a clear reminder that small detail like remembering one's name can have a big impact. As a matter of fact, a student's name is a key part of their identity, and when a teacher forgets it, it can make the student feel overlooked or unimportant. It's not just about remembering a combination of letters; it's about acknowledging the individual behind the name. Try to think back when you were students. How did you feel when your teacher remember your name? It was probably a moment of quiet pride, a feeling of being recognized and seen.

Care; just care! Care about the right things. Empathize about the relevant things. None of these work if not relevant and personal.

Think of communication as the foundation of a thriving classroom garden 🌱. Clear expectations are seeds you plant, boundaries act as fence, ensuring a safe and supportive environment 🏡. When you explain the purpose and relevance of lessons, it's like watering those expectations, helping them grow into understanding and curiosity 💦. Constructive feedback becomes sunlight, nurturing their growth, while praise is the blossoming of their achievements 🌸. Encouraging questions is like tending to a garden where curiosity blooms, and discussions are the pollination of ideas 🐝. Weed out sarcasm, criticism, and favoritism, allowing the positive and inclusive language to be the fertile soil for confidence, engagement, and respect to flourish 🌼.

As a dance teacher and a coach for dancers I feel that building better relationships with your students is more than important. Students usually admire their teachers a lot which can create problems. In my opinion this admiration can be minimalized by sharing personal stories about yourself and your passions but also your struggles, to make the connection more authentic. dance teachers should share more about themselves, like personal stories and what challenges they encountered. When teachers talk about their experiences and show empathy for the students, it makes the connection better and more inspiring. This way, everyone can enjoy class and feel safe and feel respected by the teacher.

I good way to connect with students is to share more about yourself and intergrade it in your lessons. I love photography, for example, so in my classroom I always make sure we have an activity related to photography once per week. I use photos I’ve taken and share with the class. In my EFL classroom I use my photos as writing prompts and speaking prompts while keeping it well scaffolded.. and if they so wish, may take a physical copy of one of my photos home. By sharing your interests with your classroom, you will have more fun and in return so will your students. A fun class is a good class, it’s an interesting class. And when students are interested and more involved, they will do better.

Creating a supportive and collaborative culture in the classroom is essential for fostering a positive learning environment and for promoting academic success and personal growth among students. There are several strategies that educators can employ to achieve this goal. This can be achieved through open discussions and the establishment of ground rules for communication and collaboration. Teachers should also model the kind of behavior they wish to see in their students, such as active listening and empathising Teachers can also use positive reinforcement and recognition to encourage . This can include praising individuals and groups who demonstrate exceptional teamwork or who go out of their way to support their peers.

Building relationships with students extends beyond teaching or lecturing. It is a multi-layered effort. Building individual attention requires understanding each student’s specific nature—mental well-being, level of understanding of the student, and the urgency of their situation. Equally crucial is the teacher’s attitude or approach. The approach refers to a genuine interest in understanding students, the skill of active listening even during extended periods, a friendly mentoring role, showing empathy, creating a conducive space for students to think outside the box, and ensuring an open conversation where students feel relaxed. In that manner, teachers or lecturers can build better and more sustainable relationship with students.

Be approachable, engage in conversations, and create opportunities for open communication. Understanding their needs and providing support can strengthen your connection with them.

1. Lecturers should go into the problem and come with a solution where they can guide the students to find the solution. Not allowing the students to go on their own way. 2. Lecturers should utilize the resources where students knows how to utilize the same resource. This will reduce just copy and paste where students don't need a Lecturer 3. Lecturers should be more aware about the knowledge where to teach the students as they understand under whatever the question they asked. Lecturer should allow the students to ask whatever the question in the boundary.
