How can program vision and goals drive organizational success?

In my experience, teams fast forward through this bit to get to the 'real work' by coming up with very generic statements that could win you a game of strategy buzz word bingo! That's a mistake. THIS is the real work. If you get crystal clarity on what you are trying to achieve and why, everything else is easy

To set vision, mission, goals and targets are the primary and most important steps for progress and measurable growth of an organization.

In my opinion, it is very correct. In my national language: "جستجو جو کرے وہ چھوئے آسمان" Mean one must have will and proper procedure to achieve the mission, goals and targets.

A program vision is a clear, succinct, evocative statement of outcome. It summarizes and illustrates — memorably — what the organization strategy is intended to achieve: results that satisfy requirements and deliver benefits.

In my experience, strategically crowdsourcing the refinement of the vision yields the best results. And the most buy-in from stakeholders. Obtain diverse and inclusive viewpoints at every stage through robust stakeholder mapping and engagement. And treat the outlier perspectives as vital, not data excursions to be excluded from the central tendency. Ignoring the outliers because they don’t fit the prevailing sentiment is the *opposite* of diversity and inclusion. Not the absence of, but the opposite.

The project sponsor will create the initial vision for the program and it falls to the program manager to define the goals and confirm their alignment with overall vision and goals. These goals are presented to the project sponsor and key project stakeholders for approval and can be modeled as OKRs, "we will [objective] as demonstrated by [key results] within [time frame]." Once the working team, the project sponsor, and key stakeholders are aligned on the project goals, write them in the project/program charter so they can easily be referenced as the program progresses.
