This is a decade game, where even when you've "won" with strongly positive MOIC, you may still be years from actually winning with real DPI and carry paid out. And getting to that winning point will take years of losses, pain, hard intense times with your founders, occasional layoffs. You will feel stupid and powerless at times. You have to just keep going. Do the work.

After team (in early stage, almost all that matters) I focus on value creation. Great companies create great value. I'm looking for 5:1 and ideally 10:1 value creation. Public companies average 4:1 value creation for customers. This means - if you're selling a product to a customer for $10k per year, they are getting $50-100k in value from you. Real value, ROI they feel in their bank account. If this is true, you'll be an order taker. You'll be important to them. If you're only delivering 2:1 you'll be a nice to have that competes with other meh priorities. So - find a place you can create huge value. And where you can capture huge margins doing so. Build a value creation machine for everyone.

Prioritize investments that provide real value and have a clear path to growth. Focus on long-term potential rather than short-term gains. Look for startups with strong value propositions and scalable business models.
