To keep yourself motivated and inspired, you have to get out of the routine and explore fresh concepts. Never ever come to a stage where you stop learning or being curious about ideas. In executive coaching, this would mean stepping out of your comfort zone and trying to learn and experiment with new things or ideas. This curiosity will drive you to explore new avenues, concepts and methods, thus propelling you to become better. Ask probing questions and seek their answers, which are backed by logical reasoning. This will keep your approach fresh and dynamic, and thus you will be in a position to help your clients better. Continuous inquisitiveness will also result in discovering of new perspectives.

In my executive coaching practice, cultivating curiosity has been paramount. I always encourage my coachees to ask questions and explore new ideas. Curiosity drives innovation and helps uncover unconventional solutions to complex problems. I remember working with a senior leader who was stuck in traditional methods. As an executive coach, when we innovate, set challenging goals, and make a strategy for our business, that involves risk and might have failure. Do not get discouraged or get bogged by failure, see this as an opportunity to learn, gain confidence, and have faith in your abilities, that this failure will help you to find solutions. Also helping clients in a similar manner to overcome failures, will help to build a resilient mindset to overcome challenges coming in the way.

Curiosity truly is the secret sauce to a successful coaching conversation. Refrain from the temp to solution for the leader, and keep in mind that it is the exercise coach’s role to ask thought provoking questions to help the client to find the answer themselves. It is not the coach’s role to tell them what the question should be.

Goal setting in coaching provides clarity and focus. A few things people tend to overlook: 1. Take time to share your development goals with your manager. The objectives are to solicit his/her input, create alignment so your manager can support you along the way, and get him involved along this development journey. 2. Make the goals very specific. For example, instead of saying “improve my executive presence and leadership brand”, make it a lot more specific: “build a leadership brand of strategic thinking by clearly formulating a vision for my team and engage in a roadshow with stakeholders in 2024 to share and socialize my vision”. 3. Make the goals time bound. This is a simple practice but powerful to help you keep track progress.

Having a goal is very important. If we achieve one goal, set a new goal. But if we just stop with one goal, we will not progress further. Goals should also be updated & upgraded. Improvisation in goals are also needed. No matter how big or small, goals should be there. If there is no goal, then there is no development or progress for a professional.

As an executive coach, when you innovate, develop a different strategy, it involves risks and might have failure. Do not get discouraged by failures, see this as a learning opportunity to bounce back with more confidence and motivation to sort out the problems you have experienced. Also apply this learnings with clients to build a resilient mindset, not to get discouraged by the setbacks, but rather overcome these roadblocks for achieving desired outcomes.

Wouldn’t frame it as failure because if we see learning as a journey, there is no failure, rather there is just growth and learning. For instance, maybe after 2-3 coaching sessions you client decided that this doesn’t seem to be a good match, and they want to find a different coach. This will happen, and will likely happen more than just once. The way forward is respect the leader’s choice, and be ready to move on.

Encourage a culture of experimentation and iteration within your coaching practice and among your clients. Emphasize the value of taking calculated risks and testing new approaches, even if they result in temporary setbacks.

Failures are the best way to learn & equip ourselves better. If we think about failures & not making a move, then we cannot take any step further. We will be killed by our self doubt, fears & insecurity. If we are open to failures, though it is difficult to go through, we become more resilient. Failures teaches us more than success.

Seeking feedback is another powerful tool I advocate for. It provides new insights and perspectives that can fuel innovation. During my coaching sessions, I emphasize the importance of soliciting feedback from peers, mentors, and team members. One coachee, after implementing this practice, discovered blind spots and areas for improvement that he hadn’t noticed before. This continuous feedback loop spurred innovative thinking and growth. Feedback is a mirror reflecting potential areas for innovation.

We need to seek feedback sorry Feed-forward from people who are Industry experts Coaches Mentors Boss(es) Super boss Experienced collègues Peers who are genuine etc.., We should be mindful that from whom we are collecting Feed-forward. Because that should add value in our life

It might happen that when someone gives feedback, our emotions or ego can get in a way. This may lead to ignoring or rejecting feedback. The best way is seeking feedback. When we seek feedback, we take responsibility to act on it with a positive outlook. 5 steps to seek feedback: 1. Reflect on what you hope to gain. 2. Identify the right people to ask for feedback 3. Prepare the right questions. 4. Take notes on your feedback. 5. Graciously reflect and review.

As a coach it is very important to network with fellow coaches as well as professionals for our development, support, learning and growing as a professional. Having a diverse network will help the coach to have diverse views, ideas, and be aware about the future trends. The diverse network will the coach to face challenges, learn and grow personally and professionally.

When tapping into one’s network, it is important to anchor on your coaching focus and your purpose. There are so many directions one can go, it will be helpful for you to clearly articulate your purpose of coaching, your philosophy and your approach. Remember this is not about finding as many as you can in the network, rather it is about finding those who share the similar value, focus and purpose, deepening the relationships, and further enhance your executive coaching brand.

Executive coaches often work alone, focused on 1:1 support for clients. This type of work setting can lead to isolation and being in an echo chamber of sorts. To continue to grow and serve your clients well, it is imperative to build and sustain a network with other executive coaches. I have personally benefited from the shared wisdom, support, and collegiality of the community of coaches at the Association of Corporate Executive Coaches (ACEC). Interacting with coaches of such a high caliber energizes my thinking and makes it easier to stay informed about business trends and challenges that help me better serve my clients. Whether an international organization like ACEC or a local coaching network, find your people. You'll be glad you did.

Network is our Net Worth. We need to really invest quality time to network with the right professions/people around us. They need to inspire, influence & impact us. If we have the right people around us, we become better & better

Regular reflection is essential for maintaining motivation and inspiration. Take time to reflect on your coaching experiences, the progress of your clients, and the impact of your strategies. Reflective practices, such as journaling or discussion with a peer coach, help to consolidate learning, recognize achievements, and identify areas for improvement. Encourage your clients to engage in regular reflection as well, promoting a cycle of continuous self-assessment and growth. Reflection keeps you grounded, focused, and open to new possibilities.

Make a bucket list - a list of the things you want to do in life before you, well, kick the bucket. I made mine in my early 40s and should have done it much earlier. I reflected on this list annually, sometimes every few months, and visualized myself having the experiences or things that I wrote down. I noticed that within a few years, many of the items on my list started getting checked off. The universe has a unique way of bringing to you what you see and feel in your heart and mind (a.k.a. The Law of Attraction). Self-reflection is one of the most important activities you can do for life happiness. Pause to reflect so you can move forward.

Regular reflections are so powerful if we do it consistently. By doing it once or twice we cannot create anything great. It needs full level of involvement & focus. Regular reflections will make us realise the reality & help us to think about our improvisation. It will also keep us relevant & grounded

The reflection will help us as a coach to take a pause, take stock of our progress, what needs to be realigned with our goal. The practice of reflection will help us to keep focused, inspired, passionate about our work and being aware and appreciate the fact that how we are impacting others lives through our coaching.

When I am coaching someone, I get energy and motivation, as I am fully aware of the fact that, I am adding value in client's life by partnering with him/her to have new insights and evoked awareness to move forward towards their desired goals.

Devoted to truth, best practices , constant improvement of processes rather than being dead set on one goal. Trial by fire is incredibly effective and deeply humbling.. Perspective and gratitude are essential. Gratitude is everything.
