Loop in your 'village' and share your acknowledgement of the burnout with your manager, your partner, your friend -- they can support you and help hold you accountable to overcoming the challenges you are facing.

Burnout is usually a slow and gradual process, one that tends to rob people of their passion, their motivation, and energy, leaving them instead with feelings of exhaustion and frustration. But as overwhelming and infiltrating as burnout can feel, recovering is possible by these tips which I follow. Spend 5-10 minutes at the end of each workday jotting down what you learned, noticed, and achieved. Strengthen active reflection and self-compassion practices. Take time to actively reflect on your efforts and accomplishments. Taking time off to hit your "reset" button. Recognize and replace negative self-talk. The experience of burnout feels pretty awful – but burnout is treatable, and the recovery process can be deeply empowering!

Whenever these signs appear, it means that you are experiencing burnout.

As a project leader, you might feel the need to be constantly available, but it's important to establish limits. Determine specific times when you will disconnect from work-related communication and stick to these boundaries. This separation allows your mind and body to rest, leading to increased productivity and a more balanced life.

To avoid burnout, I prefer to work during my most productive hours, such as starting early in the morning. This helps me align with my work. Taking regular breaks every two hours helps me recharge and refocus on work.

When you take care of your body, you're better equipped to handle stress and lead your team with vigor.

With a demanding job it is challenging to prioritize personal health, but you need to maintain your physical and mental health in order to function optimally at work. Eating well and moving your body are key to a healthy lifestyle. My mantra is Keep Your Body Moving (mobility is a gift!). Seek out opportunities to maintain and strengthen your health needs. It could be something as simple as stepping away from your desk and walking around the block a few times. If your company promotes well being and offers webinars/programs I would highly recommend signing up for these.
Embracing downtime is crucial for recharging your batteries. Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation outside of work. Whether it's reading a book, pursuing a hobby, or simply taking a walk in nature, these moments of leisure are vital for mental rejuvenation. Downtime allows you to disconnect from work pressures and return with a refreshed mindset and renewed energy.
