In my experience, this is a lifetime commitment and exercise. Remaining constantly curious and eager to learn are the foundation of professional growth. Seek and utilize any and all tools your company provides....classes, volunteer opportunities, formal feedback processes, and mentorship. There are also a wide variety of external tools and resources available. Set a time and money budget for investment in your own development on an annual basis and track your progress. There is great ROI in your own development.

We are in the era of "Unlearn and Relearn". A Leader should be practicing life long learning. Some ways of learning are: read the relevant books, attend webinars, connect with thought leaders, enhance the networking.

It is essential to embrace learning in leadership. You can and should always be learning in your career. The common misconception is that leaders have all the answers and the reality is they don't. A good leader knows their place as a facilitator of the great people that surround them to allow that leader to come to a conclusion that has taken in all views and opinions with balance. The best piece of advice I was given as a leader was that, 'if you go into a room and your the smartest person in the room ... your in the wrong room'. Your job as a leader is to learn from the people around you and they will take learning from you. Stay humble.

Feedback Loops: I regularly ask my team for feedback on my leadership style and use it to improve. These practices have been instrumental in my professional development.

Qué importante el feedback!! Siempre que venga de la persona indicada... A veces, nos llegan feedback no solicitados, de personas que entienden menos que nosotros sobre un asunto en particular. Esto, nos sucede más a las mujeres con sobre explicaciones o recomendaciones de varones que, incluso con buena intención, o de manera paternalista, quieren darnos "un buen consejo". No siempre es fácil hacer oídos sordos, tenemos siglos de esta dinámica. Pero podemos ser conscientes de ello, restarle importancia, y seguir adelante!!

It is tautological to state that we can’t hit a target we can’t see, or that we don’t even define. Goals are what defines our path, yet they are like a compass, not a destination. We commonly think the idea behind goals is to attain them - and in many sensing it is - yet they have great dimensionality than this. They exist so that we can have an aligned purpose and vision, and work collaboratively towards a shared outcome. Along the way we grow, get feedback, and adapt. Sometimes the goals evolve with us. Yet goals are really a form of communication and shared understanding and purpose.

Specific and Measurable Goals: Define clear, specific, and measurable goals. This clarity will help you focus your efforts and track your progress. For example, instead of aiming to "improve communication," set a goal to "conduct bi-weekly meetings with my team to discuss ongoing projects and individual concerns." Align Goals with Values: Ensure your goals align with your personal and organisational values. This alignment increases your commitment and satisfaction as you work towards outcomes that resonate with your core beliefs. To grow as a leader requires us to be willing to be uncomfortable. When we become complacent and predictable we becone stagnant. Expanding our network is one way to do this but it needs to go beyond our circle of influence and profession. We need to seek out others with different perspectives and backgrounds. I have found valuable insight from others in very different fields. BE WILLING TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE AND CONNECT WITH SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT THINK LIKE YOU.

En la navegación, mucho más determinante para llegar a destino es la dirección que la velocidad. Si vamos rápido pero con 1 grado de desvío, llegaremos rápidamente lejos de nuestra meta. Mejor, es parar para controlar la brújula, chequear que estamos yendo la dirección correcta, y seguir. Lo que parece una pausa, en realidad es un propulsor! Parar y reflexionar puede ser la medida más eficiente para llegar a nuestras metas.

Nothing beats hands-on experience and most of the time, you have to walk towards your goal instead of waiting for an opportunity to present itself so seek out leadership opportunities within your organization or professional community like leading projects, mentoring junior colleagues, or volunteering for leadership roles in industry associations.
