One way to override this influence is to delay action/reaction. You can either countdown to a certain number, or sleep over the issue at hand. You are more likely to make a decision you will not regret later when you do this.

Understand logic = instill common sense. Interestingly every individual may have its unique common sense (could be due to their experiences/exposure). End game is what is the duration, how many steps require to bring us to the goal. Getting buy in from others will be another interesting topic as everybody in the room is trying to convince one another to buy their idea. =). In this process, the discussion may take longer than desire and may lost interest/focus from the participants.

Setting clear goals should be divided into at least 2 parts: Short term goals - these goals are immediate perhaps between 1 to 6 months: could be short courses, consistence on LinkedIn, collaborations, wardrobe upgrade, seeking out a mentor or working on your diet. Long term goals - these should be a build up of your short term goals and could be between 3 - 10 years: like landing a dream job; going for that Masters, PHD or Diploma; travelling, starting a business... Your goals must be time bound and specific, you work towards your long term goals from your short term goals.
Gathering accurate and comprehensive information is a cornerstone of logical reasoning. Before making any decision, take the time to research and understand all aspects of the situation. Look for reliable sources and data that can inform your choices. When I asked why, I realized that most believed that they would have more time on their hands, and that teaching is the easiest jobs ever. After a while, they are crying foul, they feel stressed and want out of the teaching world. These people did not make informed decisions, they listened to the perks and didn't see the hard parts coming.

You must tell yourself that quitting never helped anyone. If you are cooking rice and there is no chicken, that shouldn't stop you from cooking your rice, use the other available protein. So, that big decision that you want to make to leverage in your career, to upgrade your finances to get a promotion, even to marry your dream man/woman, you must know that quitting is not an option.
