My experience in both completing and receiving performance evaluations is really mixed because the focus is on the process and inputs and not what the participants are expecting as a constructive outcome. More often than not the performance evaluation is used for purposes it was never designed for such as remuneration and reward outcomes, promotion or restructuring decisions and the dreaded forced distribution. Remember the supposed global CEO who wore the “badge of honour” that he fired the bottom 20% of his team every year? What an abysmal way to manage and lead. I used to fight hard if some idiot came to me and said I had “too many” high performers!! I always thought it was mutually beneficial to have high performing teams! Still do!!
