When people ask how they can better lead a team or an organization, I always start by reminding them that a team or an organization is a social abstract that does not exist in reality. What does exist? People, individual human beings who came to work together. And unless each employee is thriving, the "team" will have problems. So leaders need to start by putting effort into understanding each individual member of the team, building trust and solid working relationships with them, and creating a system that provides a supportive environment. By doing that, a leader will promote the same behaviour among all team members towards each other. And then, collaboration, innovation and great results will follow.

Sorry I disagree. Many companies or industries teams set very clear visions & goals. Yet many instances we still might get uncommitted staff. Due to perhaps lack of company management Maslow Law humans needs provided. For example lower market rate wages, poor benefits, long working hours and even poor working conditions etc. And about the point of regular engagement may yield little to lack of progress due the mention lack of human needs being provided. Communicating effectively is my number one. Communicate the good, the bad and the latest. Communicate if there is no news just so people feel involved. Effectively for me means active listening, answering the real questions and asking open questions to understand where people are really at and how they’re experiencing things. Listen to the words that are used and understand the emotional temperature. Communicate in the language of the team and through their channels. It pays to never underestimate the power of the grapevine and never to ignore the general mood and sentiment – feelings and mood are more powerful in setting your course than formal plans.
