In my experience, self-directed learning has always been the go-to route for staying up to date with not only the latest trends and knowledge in the field but also the what else should I know that will help me with my work, my projects and my clients. These can range from looking into the business side of the industry for those in overly technical roles to enhancing one's understanding of the key drivers in the industry or the evolving technologies. It's easy to get lost in the marketing material of OEMs, consultancy firms, software vendors etc etc, however, there is a wealth of knowledge out there that can enhance anyone's development within the sector.
