You’re working on a corporate real estate team. How can you make sure it’s diverse enough to be successful?

DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) is new Corporate Mantra leading its way to Breed & develop organisation culture, moral and social imperative. Diversity plays a bigger & major role in building a CRE team why; CRE team/s has multiple touchpoints with stakeholders (internal employees, Global Management & external stakeholders i.e. vendors suppliers communities) thus very critical to imbibe diversity within the CRE team. Diversity helps us bring in multiple perspectives while working across different geographies, ethnicity helps us connect & engage very well with multiple facets of diverse entities. CRE function has team members from multiple spheres of life across the larger cross section which makes diversity a critical element.

The key thing here is that diversity isn't just a necessity, it is an opportunity. The likelihood is that you won't fully know what you are missing until you fill that gap. It's human nature to be cautious in recruitment and that inevitably leads to a very siloed approach. In some cases, even people with the skills and track record aren't accepted as they don't tick the right boxes for sector experience. Try to focus on how you can grow the knowledge and potential of your team and how a better balanced and diverse team will give you so many more options to do this, not just through their perspectives, but also through their ability to understand your customers.

Create team-building activities that expose the neighbors to cultures they have yet to explore. Through communicating with people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, the team will understand what diversity means.

Fomenta la colaboración y el intercambio de ideas para maximizar la creatividad y adaptabilidad. Monitorea continuamente la diversidad del equipo y ajusta estrategias. Implica también la diversidad de expertise de cada miembro en diferentes especialidades del sector inmobiliario.

One may argue that Diversity is strict in the category of S when it comes to ESG, but from a business perspective there is also a different angle which comes along with the broad usage of AI tools. To achieve best in class results a diverse team is required, since the approach for prompts differs between gender, age and background. In this way AI doesn't kill the networking effect but rather supports it, since it fosters collaboration and communication in the team. And the basis for scale effects for the company lays in diverse teams.

Ethnicity and Diversity within CRE Team across industries and geographies is important as benchmark to evaluate the stack of the organisation.

The balance between gender and multi background in a team makes a perfect KPI for Diversity. As more different backgrounds, gross departement experience and years of practice as better, while the same goes for balanced gender and diverse age between the team members.

Teambuilding events and regulation on gender equality is not enough. The rotation in between departments and projects of single team members based on a Kaizen culture is fostering diversity and supporting best in class results. It´s not any more the question how we work but rather what we work, in which cultural context and with whom we collaborate to achieve excellence.

The best methode to profit from Diversity is diverse leadership and regular assessment and feedback on personal and team level. This way we ensure continuous learning and adaption in between the team members, which helps to foster the community and stakeholder engagement.
