To foster open communication in my IT team, I start by creating a safe environment where everyone feels respected and valued. I encourage regular check-ins and promote transparency by openly sharing project goals, challenges, and successes. I also lead by example, actively listening to team members and inviting feedback. Utilizing tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams for open discussion and implementing retrospectives after key projects can help surface issues constructively. Building trust takes time, but it leads to stronger collaboration, faster problem-solving, and an empowered team culture.

Think of it like cracking a safe—patience and the right approach matter. Start by creating a space where people feel safe sharing ideas, even half-baked ones. Lead by example: be open about your own challenges, and they’ll feel more comfortable doing the same. Encourage small, regular check-ins so everyone has a voice without pressure. And keep it casual sometimes—grabbing coffee or a quick chat can loosen things up. When they see you value every perspective, barriers start falling. It’s all about trust, consistency, and showing that honest communication truly matters.

Uma comunicação pressupõe haver publicação de todos. Então inicie por treinamento de promoção da transparência. Registre que antes de falar do esforço, registre o resultado. Que o resultado está na entrega do propósito da Ordem de Serviço. Assim o relatório e a comunicação precisa VERBOS: Projeta de ser feito, Realizado até este ponto, Pendente e planejado os próximos passos. No final pode até acontecer um espaço para as dificuldades encontradas. Ainda justifica acompanhamento, até que se torne uma rotina, se o relatório não foi entregue, que aconteça notificação e cobrança. De fato os relatórios também precisam ser valorizados e a cada percepção de PROBLEMA ou DIFICULDADE seja feito uma avaliação com discussão de melhorarias.

Identifique o que está impedindo a comunicação aberta. Converse individualmente com os membros da equipe para entender as barreiras, que podem incluir falta de segurança psicológica, problemas de clareza nas expectativas ou até sobrecarga de trabalho. Avalie se há restrições técnicas ou culturais que impactem a comunicação e use esse entendimento para ajustar suas abordagens e políticas de forma a atender às necessidades específicas do grupo.

As a leader, creating an enabling environment that encourages growth and allowing team to use their initiatives can foster open communication. Leaders should be attentive by listening to ideas from the team and through review, the leader can understand the different individuals perspective to matters. Some individuals feel humiliated when they notice their contributions are not given attention.

Se deseja uma comunicação eficiente, precisa valorizar o FEEDBACK. Valorize o que recebe, demonstre o valor e ai terá a percepção de todos para manter este processo. Então entenda que a Comunicação é uma via de duas direções. Sendo necessário haver entendimento nas duas partes. Por este motivo, sem monitoramento e retorno, as pessoas não serão percebidas. Sem isso elas deixaram de fazer algo que parece não ser importante.

Deixe claro que a comunicação transparente é uma prioridade e explique como isso beneficia a equipe e os projetos. Crie diretrizes para reuniões e canais de comunicação, encorajando a participação ativa e o compartilhamento de informações. Quando a equipe entende que a comunicação é essencial para o sucesso coletivo, ela tende a adotar uma postura mais proativa. Reforce continuamente essas expectativas para manter o compromisso.

Se perceber e gerar feedback, criará um canal de confiança. Então haverá um Comunicação Eficiente, que promova transparência entre a expectativa do que será feito e a entrega. Sobre tudo valorizando quem opera. A ponto de justificar melhorias e acertos nos processos. Afinal de contas os processos são vivos, se adaptam e justificam ser monitorados e validados de forma continua. Este é o princípio da comunicação e isso vai gerar a confiança.

Crie um ambiente onde cada membro sinta-se valorizado e respeitado ao compartilhar suas ideias. Evite críticas severas, incentivando uma atmosfera onde falhas são oportunidades de aprendizado. Transparência em relação a decisões e mudanças também fortalece a confiança, ao mostrar que todos estão no mesmo barco. Para construir esse vínculo, esteja acessível e mostre interesse genuíno nas preocupações da equipe.

I believe trust is essential element in good team collaboration. It might be challenging to build trust in remote environment, so I highly recommend doing an on-site workshop/kick-off at the beginning of a project so that the team members could bond together which allows them to build trust to each other. In this way remote work will be much efficient. Also on the standup meetings you will se familiar faces and maybe you crack some jokes to make work more fun.

Trust is the foundation of effective communication. Demonstrate to your team that you genuinely value their input and will support them when they voice ideas or raise concerns. When people feel safe to speak up without worrying about judgment, they’re more inclined to contribute openly and honestly.

Additionally, offer anonymous channels for feedback to create a safe space for those who may prefer to share their thoughts privately. This helps reinforce that all feedback is important and appreciated.

These tools are especially valuable for remote teams, helping to maintain a steady flow of communication and break down any barriers that might arise when working apart.

There are simple things you can do that improve communications among the team. First I insist on 5 quarterly goals for each team member and EVERY goal must exist on at least one other team member's goals at the same weight. This stops people from feeling like they are abandoned on an island and that it is in the best interest of each member to encourage their team members to do better together. We succeed as a team, we fail as a team.....
