So assessing the internal risks is as equally important as assessing external risks.

Something I’ve always done is Check Management for Conditions of potential acceptance of delay eg - Impossible to deliver Value Outcome or Nuisances of Rushed Delivery. Give Management a clear view of Critical Delaying Factors and their Mitigation with a Revised Timeline and get their Buy-In at earliest. This way they can Own the Delay. Nobody likes last minute Surprises.
