There is a trend to want to keep up with the latest technology. And with IT, this is the latest version of Windows, of MS Office etc.
The lure is often security, and the need to defend against hackers. If you don't have the latest versions with all the latest patches then your system is vulnerable, they say.
The scare mongering leads to spending money on upgrades, but your staff then find out they cannot do what they used to be able to do the way they were taught to do it. Production goes down, and stress goes up.
So you need to upgrade and review your training materials to the new versions, and have all relevant staff go through the training. Many of them hate change, and attending even more training puts them behind, so they rush it.

The solution? Only upgrade when you really need to, such as when customers and clients have new versions and yours will not work with theirs. eg when Word documents changed from .doc to .docx.
For security, make sure you have a strong firewall, anti-virus, and more importantly make sure ALL your staff know when to reject an email and not open it.
