A great way to set ground rules for team is during the formation of the team working agreement which should cover all aspects as much as possible. One method that has helped me prevent team domination during the dailies is to implement a round-robin format. This approach gives each team member a designated turn to speak, answering the 3 questions as a guide to keep things short and valuable. This method promotes equal participation, ensures all voices are heard, and keeps the meeting concise and efficient.

In team stand-ups, dominance by a few individuals can be highly detrimental, especially when an egoistic person monopolizes the discussion. This behavior undermines the collaborative spirit vital for effective teamwork. But balanced participation will enhance commitment and prevent the toxicity that can arise from a member or a 'group of members' dominance of ideas, and perspectives. Ensuring individual involvement is essential for the team's development and the achievement of collective goals. Individual responsibility, combined with a commitment to the team's objectives, makes the scrum process more engaging and empowering. By fostering an environment where all voices are heard, we enhance the team's strength and intentions for success.

Change the facilitator regularly to give everyone a chance to lead. Scheduled Rotation: Assign a new facilitator each week or sprint. One thing that I found helpful was to agree with the team upon constraints and ground rules like: 1. Start on time. 2. Keep the meeting short (15 minutes max). 3. Raise your hand after completing your points. 4. Pass the ball to one who didn’t talk before. 5. Navigate the board. 6. Keep the board up to date.

The most dangerous impact of frequent interruptions is that it can erode psychological safety, making the team members feel undervalued and less likely to contribute in future. This reduces overall participation, engagement and collaboration. To avoid these, it is essential to promote active listening, respect for each speaker's time, and adherence to meeting protocols that ensure everyone has an uninterrupted opportunity to share.

When team members feel heard, they're more likely to speak up. Create a safe space where everyone can share their thoughts without interruption or judgment. Encourage team members to paraphraseg and summarize each other's points, ensuring understanding and valuing each contribution. By doing so, you'll create an environment where every voice is amplified, and everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard. Effective listening is the catalyst for inclusive and engaging daily stand-ups.

Daily stand-ups can sometimes be dominated by : -Vocal members -More experienced members -Senior members This can leave the inexperienced / introverted / junior members out in the cold. Try to create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable contributing. Something that has worked for me is allowing them to provide written updates ahead of time, ensuring their insights are captured. During the event, I would make sure they received an equal share of time. Try to ask direct but non-confrontational questions to encourage their participation and aim to foster a balanced dialogue where every team member's voice is heard and valued. The approach works well. It enhances collaboration by leveraging the unique strengths of all.

Being one myself, I recognize that daily stand-ups can be daunting for introverts, especially when working alongside senior or more experienced team members. To ensure everyone's voice is heard, I implement strategies that empower introverts to contribute confidently: - Set a comfortable pace, allowing time for thoughtful contributions - Encourage pre-stand-up written updates for those who prefer to reflect before sharing - Break into smaller teams to create a safe space for introverts to share their ideas - Value and acknowledge every contribution, no matter how small Empowering introverts isn't just about inclusivity – it's about harnessing the unique strengths and perspectives that drive our team's success.

One thing that I found helpful was to ask the team about the Return on Time Invested (ROTI) in the meeting, it can be applied on any meeting, this will give you feedback on how the meeting went and any improvements that can be made.
