What are the best ways to create a team culture that promotes creativity and productivity?

This one can be a double-edged sword. So rather than focusing on your vision and values in this post, I want to focus on checking in on your vision and values. If you have a strict vision at the start and only stick to it, without checking back to see if it is working, you can pigeon hole yourself into a bad place. Instead, take some time (or better yet schedule some time) to check in on your values. Are they still the same? Do they serve the goals of my business? Am I still accomplishing them? This can save you headaches down the road. And it will prevent the boiling frog issue.

A culture of creativity and productivity can never bu willed into place by one person. And a team without a culture is an anti-team. In my experience in legal writing, collaborative legal-writing projects (e.g., a brief, a motion, or an appeal) are typically a mish-mash of contributors—without a clear role, without a shared vision, and without any continuity. Rather than have each legal-writing product be the result of an evolving process, they typically are one-off creations that don't lead to continuous improvement. A legal-writing team with a shared vision and values can overcome this inertia. But it takes time and a shared commitment to growth.

In order to encourage diversity, you need to know what it means. It's not only race or gender. It can be so much more. Is there a single parent? Immigrant child? Etc. Everyone has unique circumstances that makes them diverse. Find a way to extract some of the "minor" diverse traits in addition to the "major ones"

The keyword here is "facilitate." In order for effective communication and strong collaboration to occur, you must lead your people - in a certain direction, with a level of confidence, and bringing something to the table as well. Be prepared with some tools and topics as a starting off point, then get out of the way and allow the team to brainstorm and create. Only step back in when things are stalling or losing momentum, then be willing to remove yourself as things progress.
