I think too often mentoring is pitched to mentors as being an opportunity to give back. The point of joining an intergenerational mentoring program is so that mentors can grow and learn through mentoring too. Having clearly outlined expectations at the program level ensures a consistent expectation across the group of mentors, which then presents an opportunity for the potential mentors to learn through each other at a peer level as well.
