Having team members who genuinely love what you do, rather than those solely driven by financial rewards, can make all the difference in creating a truly fulfilling work environment.

Agree on the tools you're going to use and how you're going to use them. Just about every project I've been on will use the same tool (e.g. Teams chat, email, Planner) differently - assuming everyone uses it the same just leads to frustration. Put in the time to be clear about how you're going to work together and what goes where.

Collaboration works best when everyone has a clear and shared vision of what they are working towards and why. Set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, and communicate them to your team. Break down larger goals into smaller milestones and assign roles and responsibilities accordingly. Track and monitor your progress and adjust your plans as needed. Celebrate your achievements, big and small, and recognize the efforts and contributions of your team members. This will boost their morale, confidence, and motivation.

Don't spend too much time trying to force your work into a framework - whether it's SMART goals, OKRs, or whatever is the flavour of the month, make sure everyone knows - What are you trying to achieve? - What does success look like? - What do I need to do to support it?

Encourage your team members to share their ideas, opinions, insights, and suggestions, and create a safe and supportive environment where they can do so without fear of judgment or criticism. Invite feedback and constructive criticism from others, and be open to different perspectives and approaches. Challenge yourself and your team to think outside the box and find new ways to solve problems or improve processes.

By following these steps, you can create a strong and unified team.

Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or other special occasions with your team and express gratitude, appreciation, and praise for your team members regularly. Lastly, having a positive attitude, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor can help motivate and inspire others in a collaborative work setting to achieve more together than you could alone.
