Trust and likability are crucial. They're like the glue for effective communication. Being honest, respectful, and friendly is key. It aligns with my goal of reliable and engaging conversations, making the exchange of ideas smoother.

Sharing personal stories and using humor can also bridge gaps. When people feel understood and valued, they are more likely to be receptive. As a people manager, I was tasked with helping my team navigate a major change that would impact their day to day work. This change was often met with resistance across other teams, however, because I had invested the time in developing trust and rapport with my team in a meaningful way this major change was met with little resistance. When someone is objecting utilize active listening skills, repeat the objection back to show you're listening and then respond accordingly. It's also okay to say, "Wow, I didn't think about that, let me do that and get back to you." Then, of course, make sure to circle back.

We listen to these concerns, validate the patient's feelings, and explain how the treatment can help, providing reassurance. Similarly, when persuading others, acknowledge their worries and offer clear, respectful counterpoints. Show that you value their opinions and are willing to address their concerns. This approach not only builds trust but also demonstrates that you genuinely care about their perspectives and satisfaction. Genuine concern is so critical.

Choose words and phrases that inspire confidence and optimism. Your language should convey enthusiasm and conviction in your message.

Demonstrate through your body language, your voice and your words, that you want the best possible outcome for both parties. Stay positive and keep emotions at bay.

Using positive and confident language is essential for persuasion. When presenting your ideas, use assertive and positive language. Show your enthusiasm and conviction without coming across as arrogant. Your confidence can inspire others to trust and follow your perspective, making your message more compelling and effective.

Staying positive is important, in addition it's important to address concerns and frustrations in a positive, empathetic way. It's okay to say, "I understand this is super frustrating and I'm here to help you navigate those frustrations as we figure this out together."

In persuasion, the final step is the call to action—asking your audience to do something specific. Be clear, urgent, and explain the benefits. Use incentives and social proof but avoid being pushy or manipulative to build trust and maintain a positive relationship with your audience.

Avoid coming across as pushy, as it tends to repel others. Instead, emphasize clarity in your call to action, ensuring that your message is not only assertive but also clearly articulated.

I would also like to add that you may need to follow up once the call for action is given. When doing so, come from a place of curiosity rather than one of "why didn't you XYZ."

Unless you tell your audience what you'd like them to do they have no incentive to do so. Be clear about your call to action so you can see results of your persuasion efforts.

Be flexible and adaptable in your approach to persuasion. Different situations and audiences may require different strategies. Continuously refine your persuasive skills through practice and feedback.

You truly have to believe in what you're trying to persuade others about. That passion and energy can permeate through how you act, present yourself and speak overcoming a lot of the other issues which may come up. Also, if you don't believe fully in what you're saying, they are never going to buy in. So embrace your passion for what you're trying to do and let it shine through so it becomes infectious.
