How can you showcase your brand's history through podcasting?

You need to figure out your style, goals, the audience you'll be reaching and the format (not the one you want, the one that is most successful out there) I'd say the shorter the better to get started. Short podcasts (up to 10 min. max) have the attribute of binge listening, and the most important metrics you need to measure are downloads and retention rate. You want your audience to listen to the WHOLE thing, in case you put a mid roll or a post roll in your episodes. Also, unless you are a big and stablished brand, try to start a conversation with your audience rather than do a 10 minute ad for your brand. That simply doesn't work in any medium.

I like what Sofia wrote here in her last paragraph. It dovetails with what we advise clients about all the time. When you plan your series make sure you distinguish your "goals" from what you're trying to accomplish. Your goals may be (as the prompt here asks) to showcase your company's history but nobody may care about your history. What you're trying to accomplish with the podcast is to engage a listener so that they want another episode and come back. Keep in mind that good podcasts are inherently generous, in that way they're art. Art may be made so that the artist can make a living but what the art itself is trying to accomplish is the connection with the audience. In this way podcasts are like sitcoms, ballet, and wrestling.

Choose your podcast topics based on your daily communications with friends and relatives. If you feel interested and confident in a topic, this will make sense to try it out.. You should do A/B testing anyways and with time you will find your audience interests and match those.

It's important to tell a factual story, but you definitely want to highlight & accentuate parts of the brand / personal history that are most compelling, unique & memorable!

If you're luck enough to be in a field with an active community go to the forums, posts, or hashtags the tribe is using. Read as much as you can. Topics should present themselves. If you aren't in a field like that search for conferences that relate to your field. Check out the speakers, keynotes, breakouts, etc. See what's being discussed. Finally, if you don't have anything like that then go to people you trust in the industry and ask them what they wish they'd known sooner.

Crafting compelling podcasts involves strategic planning. Define your concept and audience, shaping content accordingly. Structure episodes with a captivating intro, main content, and a strong conclusion. Thoughtfully integrate music and sound effects. Ensure quality recording and meticulous editing. Consider visual elements like cover art. Develop a memorable outro, thanking listeners and encouraging interaction. Consistently promote through various channels and stick to a regular release schedule. You can follow these steps to create a professional, engaging podcast for a dedicated audience.

Before making ANY piece of content, you need to research the topics and make sure it has potential to be VIRAL. And in order to do that, research now (for me at least) goes beyond searching for a few articles on Google. (Take your searching to Tik Tok, YouTube and Instagram as well). I recommend you to make an Episode Book where you can see in one page: -Name of the episode -Main topics -Guests or potential guests -How long is gonna be -Link to the script -Stage of the task (written, recorded, edited, mixed, published) -Link to the show notes (you can make them from the script or with a transcription tool such as Descript) -Publication date

OK, let's admit that making this "How to" one bullet point under the larger question is a real "yadda, yadda, bang, poof, Magic!" and the thing is done. How to "create" is a long series of decisions about scripting vs improv, guest selection and outreach, recording and audio identity, brand, editing, post-production, and many many other things. If you are a big brand or company, your podcast has to be part of your marketing plan. It's a long piece format where you can take out short pieces for social media, or even connect it to your website's blog. Consider automating a newsletter each time an episode comes out, and make it a seamless process at the beggining. Once you've passed the 7th episode being motivated, you'll have it all to be a success!! Remember to find your voice.

This is a deceptively complicated question. Any show longer than 10-min is a "long-form" piece of content. It's going to live further "down funnel" as most long content does. So promotion of the full length show should be aimed at high-potential buyers/activists/subscribers. When you edit the show recognize that you'll want separate edits for each little piece you want to clip and different edits for the various screen formats (the whole show may be shot with landscape video but clips need to be vertical for social media). Clips are the easiest things to promote. Make a lot of them. Put marketing spend behind the ones that get more organic views. Consider ad spend also for conventions/meet-ups/watering-holes where your audience gathers.

The initial question was about promoting your brand's history. Consider bringing on unusual voices if they're from people that were actually there. Get the custodian who saw headcount and floor space quintuple over a decade. Get the supplier that can talk about how you had to cut a deal with them on payments during the great financial crisis.
