How can you handle conflicting deadlines in Graphic Design?

To handle conflicting deadlines, start by creating a solid plan of attack. I work out the plan in reverse for each project - starting with the deadline, I consider key players needed for a successful project (printers, manufacturers, illustrators, calligraphers, etc). When feasible, I'll reach out ahead of time to ask about their timing needs. Add these items to a project tracker. I use Notion and set it to notify me of upcoming deadlines and tasks. Taking time in the beginning to create a thoughtful plan helps immensely. One more thing .... consider bringing on help - hire another designer or an assistant.

I prioritise tasks based on their importance and complexity, ensuring that the most important aspects are addressed first. Let the stakeholder(s) be aware of the implications, risks, and the resources that the project or piece of work depends on. You can never go wrong with communication.

I’d highly recommend using a workflow organisation tool such as trello or Monday to keep track of jobs. Using these has allowed me to see who is working on what and see where the slow downs are. Plus if all info is logged on here it make it much easier to pick up someone else’s work should they be off work.

If all the 3 above don't work for you, then communicate with the client, and give them a very tangible reason why you need them to shift the deadline date. However, before you accept any gig, make sure you do not have conflicting deadlines for more than two gigs at a time, also, you can avoid the clash of deadlines right from the time you get the gig.

Just one thing to say, don't procastinate XD. As artists, it's one thing we're good at haha. To not do something until the final moment.
