From my experience if there is a big action that will take long time to apply, it should be rather broke down into smaller pieces and usually there is an improvement after the first step. Also very important is that the retrospective is the safe space to speak up. If you see that people are reluctant to speak up, try to understand why and even remove people from the retrospective who may be the blocker to speaking up. If you are that person, it applies to you also. It gives a message that you care.

If it is not required, it is better to connect only once a week or at the end of each sprint to gather the progress on tasks assigned. En trayecto laboral dónde manejamos no solo scrum, he visto que es una pelea de perros y gatos. In my experience without retrospective you cannot plan well, as a team you have to sit together to discuss your failures and successes, your strengths and weakness, you potential. When you know what you did good or bad how can you make improvements. Few years before we did each retrospective differently with different method to not get used to it and find new things.
