There is a saying in information security "You can't protect, what you can't see" hence it is important to understand the problem statement with three key parameters what, why and how? 1. What is the problem, what is the scope and the impact of the problem? 2. Why is the problem occurring? identifying the root cause 3. How to address? Plan the response in two ways short term remediation actions which will help things move with compensatory controls. In parallel plan for a long-term mitigation strategy to address the problem. Most important perspective in addressing any challenge or threats is by responding not reacting. Most of the time people would react to a threat rather than responding to it effectively.

You can’t reach your goal unless you know the goal. Similarly, you can’t address the problem without understanding the problem. It’s one of the basic and most crucial part of any problem solving. However, the question always remain that how would you understand the problem. There are variety of tools available for this. Some of them are below: 1. QnA or questionnaire for the users. 2. Look for similar problem might have been solved by someone else. 3. Read problem statement multiple times. 4. Look for real world examples to connect with your problem actors. 5. Be open for discussion. 6. Develop understanding on why problem occurred i.e. root cause of the problem. 7. Define or understand the scope of the problem.

Winners can be celebrated and developers thankful that a reusable, proven solution is at hand. Once fully rolled out, SQL Injections become a thing of the past.

An effective analogy I've been using is the aviation industry's approach to an incident. Whenever an incident, like a plane crash, occurs, companies across the industry, regardless of their specific affiliations, collaborate to share insights. This collective effort ensures the root causes of such incidents are addressed to prevent future occurrences. Similarly, the information security sector should embrace this model of shared learning. By exchanging information on security breaches and especially their solutions, the industry as a whole can benefit from enhanced security practices.

I think Effective communication builds bridges, while collaboration constructs the path to success. effective communication weave the foundation, creating a network of understanding and connection. Collaboration, then, becomes the skilled artistry that intertwines diverse strands, harmonizing efforts and constructing the elaborate pathway towards shared success.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by where to start, create a simple 'needs vs wants' chart that aligns with supporting and prioritising the key critical goals of the business, then break into quarterly phases across a 18 month to 3 year plan based on resourcing (i.e., budget, staff, etc.) Sprinkle in a few low cost quick wins between larger, tedious projects to boost ops' morale and senior managements' confidence along the continuous improvement journey.

In one of my experiences the key challenge was integrating a newly acquired company's on-prem datacenter-based product infrastructure into our existing AWS-operated framework. We did the assessment of each component of the product on: business criticality, transformation cost, compelxity of change. Based on our assessment, we initially migrated simpler components for the new team's AWS familiarization, minimizing operational impact and checking AWS security coverage. Later, we tackled complex, high-cost components, anticipating cost reductions as the new team gained AWS proficiency. This strategy paid off, with significant cost savings achieved in six months.
