Seeking and accepting support from mentors and professional networks is crucial for success. Connecting with others reveals that you're not alone in facing challenges. Mentors provide guidance, while a strong community offers encouragement and shared experiences. Embrace these relationships to gain insights, stay motivated, and overcome obstacles together. Building a support system is key to achieving your goals. As a Marine, I needed to seek the support of others as well as be there to support others. Having individual strength was needed at times however supporting one another was crucial for accomplishing the overall mission.

In the Marine Corps, we coined the phrase "Semper Gumby," meaning to remain flexible and ready to overcome and adapt. Things were constantly changing. During my early years, I would get frustrated when things changed, but I learned that this only made things worse. I found that focusing on the change brought more change and frustration. When I realized I had no control over the change and began to embrace it with a positive attitude, the situation didn't seem as bad. Life is a mind game. The more you learn to play the game, the more adaptable you become.

We should never stop learning. Every day, I try to learn something new. I firmly believe you can learn from anyone; sometimes, people feel they can't learn from someone with a lower social or financial status, but that is a huge fallacy. We all have different backgrounds and experiences, which makes it possible for each of us to know something someone else may not. Because I am always in learning mode and speak with many people, I often learn things I didn't know or wasn't aware of. When you reach the point where you think you know it all, that's when you stop learning and growing. Always be receptive to new information; it's a crucial part of the growth process.
