In my experience team building can do more than just help the team unwind! It's a great chance to learn about each other and understand more our individual value and what we bring to the table! I created a Client Jeopardy game and the questions were comprised of information used by all departments. I broke everyone into teams of 5 with each member being from a different department. What I saw were individuals from different departments being cheered on by for what they knew, from the work they do on a day to day basis, and new appreciation for each other.

Team Building is important element, especially in a department fraught with pressure and stress. We would organize regular events from whirlyball outings, to Escape Room events. We also had an annual competition we called "Battle of the Brains," which was a competition that included lateral thinking puzzles, team work, code breaking, and communication challenges. These were fun events, that helped to develop the culture of the organization and created a release valve for some of the pressure of working in IT.
