One thing that has worked is to have the project sponsor to do an opening so everyone is aligned and clear about the expectations from the workshop. Clarify anything they are unsure of and set the tone that everyone will walk away with new knowledge, insights or increased awareness of self and others at the end of the workshop if they allow themselves to engage and participate fully.

Technology is a game-changer. Whether it's Kahoot! Polling or writing answers in an anonymous way always generate a lot of feedback and responses. Given a safe space to share, we can just open the question to the floor, anyone can comment freely without the contributor feeling the stress to delve deeper if they don't wish to. I always believe when people are ready, they will talk. As a facilitator for a big group, our role is to create the opportunity and initiate discussion, give recognition and feedback to ensure all "voices" are expressed.
