What I do when I start working with a new team member is asking them about their communication preferences. The variety of online communication tools available may sometimes be overwhelming. If the company doesn’t have very clear rules about what goes in an email versus Slack etc it may be really confusing for some people, and hard to manage. I make a mental note, but also an actual note somewhere visible on my whiteboard by the desk, notebook or at the top of the task list. Especially when I meet many new people at once that I’ll be working closely with, it helps a lot in retaining the information and ensuring we work together in a productive way that works for both parties👍
