Online events where volunteers can auction items or showcase talents 3. A common mistake is overwhelming new volunteers when they first introduce themselves to your organization. Often, those with specific skills are immediately approached to assist with fundraising. However, fundraising is usually the least preferred activity as it can be daunting. Volunteers often prefer hands-on program work, finding it more meaningful. By building relationships, showing appreciation, and listening to feedback, volunteers become more willing to participate in fundraising as they gain confidence. To accommodate those who are less tech-savvy, it can be helpful to provide ready-made imagery, infographics, or statistics they can use alongside their personal words & stories for greater impact. Encourage volunteers to use different platforms for engagement, offering suggestions on how to do so. LinkedIn content differs from WhatsApp, Instagram, & Facebook, so ensure you have suitable content for each platform to share with your volunteers. Most importantly, the content should be personal & authentic. Encourage volunteers to speak from the heart when sharing. Content that is too scripted will come across as advertising & will not be well received.

To help volunteers feel comfortable and confident in sharing their stories, organize workshops and training sessions. These sessions can provide guidance on how to craft a compelling narrative, the key elements of storytelling, and the best practices for presenting their stories. Role-playing exercises and peer feedback can also be beneficial, allowing volunteers to practice and refine their delivery in a supportive environment.
