Move over Black Friday and Cyber Monday! Green Monday is a critical online shopping day that falls on the second Monday in December every year, roughly two weeks before Christmas.

This day is typically the cutoff date that many retailers give shoppers that will guarantee shipping of products to arrive before December 25. Purchases made after that date are often not guaranteed to arrive by Christmas.

Because of this, Green Monday is actually one of the bigger online shopping days of the year and online retailers typically offer great deals to ensure all their remaining merchandise moves out.

When Is Green Monday This Year?

Green Monday is on the second Monday of December. In 2024, that means it falls on December 9.

It falls on that December second Monday each year, so it's easy to figure out. It'll always be somewhere between December 8 and December 14.

Visit Days of the Year's Green Monday page to see the exact day it falls this year, when Green Monday was in previous years, and what day to look forward to Green Monday over the next few years.

How Did Green Monday Start?

Green Monday was named in 2007 by eBay because of how much money the site made from last-minute shoppers on that day. That year, it was eBay's biggest sales day of the year.

"Green" has two meanings here. First, it refers to the money the retailer made that day; it's the most profitable of the year.

Second, green refers to eBay arguing that it's more environmentally friendly than a brick-and-mortar store; however, all those shipping boxes used to send goods sold from the site might make that claim challenging to defend.

Cyber Monday vs. Green Monday

Some circles call Green Monday "Cyber Monday 2" because of the deals. Best Buy has described the day as "one of the biggest online shopping events of the year."

Like many other retailers, it offers Green Monday deals comparable, if not better, than what you might get on Cyber Monday.

The day has never done better than Cyber Monday in sales, but it does run a close second.

Where to Find Green Monday Deals

Green Monday deals are all over the web, and most larger online retailers will participate.

For the most part, Green Monday deals are in the same places as Cyber Monday bargains. If you miss some Cyber Monday savings, check out the same retailer a few weeks later. You might find the same deal you missed or an even better one.
