Minor-age Researchers and Children in Special Collections
The Hanna Holborn Gray Special Collections Research Center welcomes minor-age researchers aged 14-18 when they are accompanied by an adult who is joining them for research. Affiliation with the University of Chicago by the adult or the minor is not required in order to consult the collections. Both the adult and the minor must present a current form of identification with a photograph when registering to consult collections.
Adult researchers may visit Special Collections with one child aged 6-14 only after contacting Special Collections in advance to make an appointment and discuss the purpose of the proposed research visit. Children under the age of six cannot be accommodated in the Special Collections reading room or other areas where collections are being consulted for research.
The Hanna Holborn Gray Special Collections Research Center offers a wide variety of instructional presentations for visiting elementary, middle, or high school classes. K-12 Teachers interested in bringing their classes to Special Collections should fill out a Class Request Form.
