Headwinds strengthen character, they say.
And since it is not clear when I will be able to get on my bike again this year, I used the afternoon with a noticeable westerly wind to go for a ride in the west of Cologne.
Somewhere near Türnich, however, I had the impression that my character had been strengthened…

The first impressive moment was the "Forbidden for cyclists and pedestrians" sign, which was put up at the only place where you can leave the Rhine bridge near Leverkusen.
I'm quite happy to follow the rules, but that's not how it works... 😅.
After that I followed the Dhünn to where it flows into the…

Morning tour from Brühl through the Villewälder to Weilerswist and Friesheim, then past the Borrer Auel flood retention basin to Mühlheim.
Wonderful sunshine, pleasant temperatures and it stayed dry from above: what more could you want! 😃

In acceptable drizzle, we first went through the western parts of Frechen, fields and woods to Marienfeld, then via Erft and Kleine Erft to Gymnich and back to Cologne.

As for the route, it was simply because I wanted to try out new routes in the first part of the trip.
I accepted that not everything was so exciting, but I just like to see something new…

I took the train to Kall - as far as the Eifelbahn currently goes.
From here, the plan was to take tried and tested routes towards Cologne.
As soon as I got off the train, it started to rain. THAT was not planned. A look at the sky and the weather app promised:
an hour of noticeable rain.
Hmm, first I went…

From the foothills via the Dobschleider Straße to Weilerswist, then via Friesheim (where the "White Castle" is getting greyer, but the magnificent Redinghoven Castle shone beautifully in the evening sun) and Erp back home.
Drove more or less aimlessly through the Rhein-Erft district to enjoy the wonderful sunshine.
As a Cologne resident, you can hardly hope for snow at Christmas, but this weather was great too!
