From the series Sunday walks at (-1C°) refrigerator temperatures Part 1:
Today a short fog-light-cold tour past the shelter "Am kromme Esel" (at the "Hinterster Bach" -> that's really what it's called).
When I entered the hut, my eyes fell on the book "The dead eyes of London" by Edgar Wallace (price 5…

This is a kind of standard route that I have been doing every now and then for many years.
The long descent behind Simmern from the K115 country road is always brilliant. You can extend this descent a little if you start from the top of the Nonnenheck (northeast of Simmern). Since it gets dark so early…

The Malbergbahn has been out of service since 1979. The area has been in disrepair ever since.
The Malberg and Malbergbahn Association is trying to get the railway back in operation at some point. The valley station has already been completely restored, including the carriage in the valley station. There…

I had imagined a more or less leisurely "tow" along the towpath. But that wasn't how it turned out. Because pretty much every surface that exists could be found here, the tour was surprisingly varied.
In Bad Hönningen itself, the route first goes through a kind of "spa park" and through wide meadow paths…

Depending on your fitness…

In the Meerbachtal behind the Schnatzenmühle, the Wüstenbach seems to have mutated into a swamp area, which generously floods the Rheinsteig. Many small paths were a little more covered in thorns and nettles than usual in summer.
Nevertheless, it was a nice tour. Finally, fat biking again 👍😁😎

Short round trip to Erpeler Ley.
The climb from Erpel station, which was only about 900 m long, was short and sweet. But the view was really worth it.
A little further on is the "Memorial stone of the first flight of a steerable(!) airship over the Rhine. Storm flight by His Excellency Count von Zeppelin…

Although I had been to Antwerp years ago, I could hardly remember anything. But Antwerp is definitely worth a stop; the many small shops and cafes away from the usual chain stores are interesting even for me, who has been anti-shopping for a long time (please never buy more than necessary😵). A particular…
Today I took a short walk to the former Peace Tower (it was supposed to have been around 25 m high and was unfortunately demolished in 1945; see highlight: komoot.com/de-de/highlight/5392429
With so many Roman remains, you can't help but wonder how the Romans kept warm in the local climatic conditions…
