About Nieres

Today after lunch we were bored. Following @Roeschen's suggestion we decided to take the bus to the zoo in Alsdorf.
Because of the New Year's Eve fireworks some of the animals were already in their accommodation and the zookeepers stayed overnight with the others. After a short tour we took the bus back home.

Our last hike this year took us to Schneeberg. We walked past the golf course and continued up to the view towards Orsbach. Then we took the Schlangenweg to the 7 springs.
After a delicious lunch we walked past Dorbach to Melaten, then took the Schneebergweg back to the car park.
@Roeschen and Nieres…

Today, on the second day of Christmas, we set out on the Steckenborn Nativity Trail. There are an incredible number of small nativity scenes set up along the way by the Steckenborn residents. It's worth a visit. Because my camera lost interest on the way, all the pictures are of @Roeschen .

On Christmas Eve, @Roeschen and I took another nostalgic walk in Herzogenrath. We lived there for the first 20 years of our marriage. That was many years ago now. Unfortunately, the weather gave us a dreary afternoon.

This afternoon, in dry weather, I @Roeschen took a walk around Würselen. On my way back, I got a tin of chocolates from Santa Claus. Every year in W ürselen there is a competition to see who has the most beautiful window decorations. If there weren't such a thing, our town would be very desolate. The…

Today, after a long time, we hiked from Geilenkirchen to Palenberg along the Wurm at @Roeschen's request. This route used to be a popular part of our bike tours.

This morning, @Roeschen and her friend went on an adventure (geocach) at the Hambach brown coal opencast mine, where the huge lake is to be built in about 40 years. @Roeschen came back very satisfied, the sun had even made an appearance.

Today we went for a hike in the area around the Val Dieu Abbey, where the group hike "Hiking in the Euregio" is to take place next Sunday. The landscape is worth exploring. Only the sun that I had predicted was late. When we drove home at lunchtime, the sky was blue and white, at least from Vaals onwards.

The weather forecast for today was fairly dry, so @Roeschen and I took the train from Herzogenrath to Rheydt. There we went for a walk through the Schmölderpark, an old cemetery and two honorary cemeteries. The weather was not good but bearable.
Today Roeschen and I went on our first hike of 2025. Under blue skies but with a cold wind, we took a beautiful circular walk around the Mühlenbach and Pützbach near Ratheim.
