D-Route 5 combines both fun and natural beauty on its way from west to east through Germany. From the dreamy vineyards of the Saar and Moselle, it takes you all the way to Franconia's beer paradise by bike. This picturesque long-distance cycle route is guaranteed to delight food lovers and cyclists alike, whisking you away to river meadows and scenic meanders.
As part of the German cycling network, D-Route 5 starts from the German-French border and covers the area around the Saar, Moselle and Main rivers. In some sections, it picks up other well-known long-distance cycle routes, such as the Rhine Cycle Route or the Bridge Cycle Route.
In this Collection, the route has been divided into 15 stages of between 54 and 90 kilometres (33 – 56 mi). Each stage ends with various accommodation options. Of course, you always split the route up into more or less stages, depending on your preference. Accessing the route is easy by train, as both the start point, Saargemünd, and the destination, Schirnding, have stations.
The Saar-Mosel-Main Route is part of the German Cycling Network and an integral part of the German government's National Cycling Plan. The 12 long-distance cycle routes and the German Unity Cycle Route connect all regions of Germany with north-south and west-east connections. To this end, existing long-distance cycle routes, river routes and themed routes are interlinked with each other, joined at attractive and exciting locations and integrated into the existing Eurovelo network. A Collection with all 12 D-routes and the German Unity Cycle Route can be found at komoot.com/collection/1928660.

Asphalted cycle paths lead…
The next challenge of your bike tour is ahead of you: On the final stage, you will cross the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park over a distance of 58 kilometers.
