The former post office Wittenburg in Wittenburg, Große Straße 6, corner Poststraße, dates from 1890 and is now a residential and commercial building. The building is a historical monument.
The city of Wittenburg with 6303 inhabitants (2020) was first mentioned in 1194 as a provincie and in 1230 as a civitas (city).
In the 18th and 19th centuries, mail coaches ran from Boizenburg to Schwerin via Zarrentin and Wittenburg. After the founding of the German Empire, the postal system was taken over by the Empire in 1872 and many imperial post offices were established.The two-storey clinker brick corner building with the striking, richly decorated three-storey gable projection and portal at the corner, the side projection from 1930 and the corbelled cornice was built for the Imperial Reichspost in the typical style of many post offices of the time (see Crivitz, Gadebusch, Sternberg, Wustrow, among others). , here according to plans by the local master builder Trosky.
Up to 1894 postal coaches drove to Wittenburg. In 1930 the house received an extension.
