Roland Rigaer

The statue of Roland stands in a central place in Riga's Old Town on the Town Hall Square between the House of Blackheads and Riga Town Hall.There was a wooden statue of Roland in Riga as early as the 14th century, but it has not been preserved. In 1894 a new sandstone Roland figure created by the sculptor August Volz was erected. However, the figure standing today on the town hall square is only a copy of this figure. The original is in the Sankt Petri Church. The base on which Roland stands is designed as a fountain (Wikipedia).

On the town hall square, in front of the House of the Blackheads, stands the large Roland Column.
